EVGA RTX 2080 TI FTW3 ultra FPS

I just recently purchased a 2080 TI with the hopes it would boost my FPS in games like cod warzone and other titles. I went from using a 1080 and was getting about 120FPS on average. Now with the 2080 TI i'm getting about 150ish with the default clock. Other people I've seen with the same GPU are pushing upwards of 220-230. I am wondering if it has something to do with my CPU, I currently have an I7 6800k with game boost enabled with a MSI X99A tomahawk motherboard. The only difference in my build and theirs is the CPU with them having an i9 9900k. Wondering if upgrading my CPU is going to have that much of an effect on my ingame performance. I am also running my games at almost the lowest settings.

Likely other people are using low settings and only 1080p. The 6800K shouldn't really hold your GPU back.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

An i7 6700k is not capable of feeding a FTW3 Ultra.

 

Not even my i7 8700k stock could do it. 

I found that out since I bought a EVGA XC 2080 ti first and paired with an i7 8086k(5ghz). When I got the FTW Ultra I paired it with my i7 8700k. 

In tests the XC always won and the i7 8700k made the extra $300 I payed for the FTW3 Ultra pointless.

I replaced the i7 8700k with another i7 8086k and then the FTW3 Ultra always wins.

 

High end 2080 tis like 5ghz plus CPUs.

That explains a lot, at 1080p the CPU is bearing the brunt of the load and the low boost clock is holding you back, if you move to higher resolutions (1440p or 4k) the load will move more onto the GPU.

 

Have you OC'd your CPU? If not I would recommend doing so as you can likely get more performance if you do so.

 

Otherwise the comparison of a 9900k makes sense, that CPU can boost to 5Ghz and frequency matters a lot when talking about gaming. I hate using the term bottleneck, but at 1080p gaming your CPU is the bottleneck. 

 

If you consider upgrading the 10600k is the best gaming CPU IMO.

At stock settings, the 6800K will hold you back because of its lower speeds at 1080p low settings.

My overclocked FTW3 Ultra bottlenecks all my games at 1440p with the exception of RDR 2 and using ray tracing.

When I used a EVGA XC 2080 ti that has the same performance as the one in the Gamers Nexus tests it was less of an issue.

It may be because the FTW3 Ultra runs between 2040mhz and 2085mhz and the XC runs at 1905mhz and 1965mhz with the default fan curve.

a 10600k with top-end b-die is what i'd recommend for your use case, if you have the budget then 10700k for 8 cores is slightly better for current games.
