Like the good motherboards from Asus or MSI are called gaming motherboards, what are OEM motherboards called? Like a motherboard inside z420 workstation

OE Motherboard? there is no special term for it.

If its from an SI builder like Origin, Cyberpower, XoticPC etc... they use off the shelf motherboards from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte etc.. If its from Dell or HP, its going to have a custom OEM board they own/build and is not available for retail sale and are just called a motherboard.. nothing special.

No, good motherboards are called good motherboards.

Crap motherboards are called crap motherboards.

 

Both can potentionally have "gaming" in their part names. Gaming in the name is not a metric for "good".

 

OEM motherboards, are called "OEM motherboards" :)

PSA: No, I didn't waste all that money on computers, (except the main one) my server cost $40, the intel NUC was my old PC (although then it had 8GB of ram, I gave the bigger stick of ram to a person who really needed it), my laptop is used and the second PC is really cheap.

I like tinkering with computers and have a personal hatred towards phones and everything they represent (I daily drive an iPhone 7, or a 6, depends on which one works that day)

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

If it is a home pc from HP you can go to their support page and look up the desktop model.

Then in there someplace they used to often have all the details.

Listing the motherboard model number and maker sometimes.

On one of my old HP desktops the motherboard maker and model number were printed right on the board.

 

I don't know of any other name for OEM motherboards.

You can just search for it using that particular model number.

Most pre-builds from the likes of major retails usually have internal part numbers. Those are part numbers that only mean something internal to the company and aren't usually shared with the customer unless necessary (for replacement).

 

Other than that you might just call them OEM Motherboards since they usually don't conform to a standard form factor. There's nothing special about them.

OEM motherboards.

 

Third party motherboards are designed for white-box PC's, so a "gaming" or a "workstation" or a "server" board from third parties assume that is what you are building, and not trying to replace OEM PC's MB. 

 

But, take note, that not every MB an OEM uses is the same. Like there are HP-Compaq OEM systems that are exactly the same as a MSI board because the MB was built by MSI https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c01946060 , Likewise some of Dell's Alienware boards are actually similar designs to what you would find from a third party board.

I think you have just worded this question in a way that is confusing many people. 

 

OEM just means Original Equipment Manufacturer.

 

Gaming motherboards are just a type of motherboard that has software in the BIOS that is overclocking friendly. 

Other motherboard variants could be:

- Server Motherboards (sometimes have dual sockets, but have support for ECC RAM mainly)

- Workstation Motherboards

- "Business" Motherboards

- Laptop motherboards

"Gaming" is marketing term and usually is midrange with flashy lights. Motherboards in laptops and prebuilds aren't usually changed outside of factory, so there's no need for making such marketing.
