Accidentally booted new Ram at much lower speed, can it cause harm?

Purchased new 3200MHZ ram and forogot I had set my DDR Frequency to 2400Mhz.

 

It wouldn't boot and Motherboard was flashing red then yellow. Had to reinstall older ram and then Default bios.

 

Could this either damage the motherboard or the RAM?

Put the new RAM in and reset CMOS, then when that's done, go into BIOS and set the RAM.

2133/2400MHz is the standard speed of DDR4 memory so literally zero cause for concern here.

Just realised that I didn't have it set to AUTO or XMP, so did it mess with the RAM timings etc also. For example could it have tried to force the ram to run at the wrong timings?

 

I know changing CPU/GPU setting cant cause harm but I don't know much about ram.

Technically it would have forced the correct timings according to the standard for DDR4, which are typically much looser than the XMP timings.

Even when I had it set in manual mode? So all in all there isn't any possibly of harm being done.

Even booting at higher frequency there is no harm done, trouble comes if you set DDR4 voltage 1,5+V.

Not sure if its right to start a new thread or not on this subject. Seem to be getting much worse FPS drops in games than with my older ram. XMP is enabled and its running at 3200Mhz. 

 

For sure getting much lower lows than with the other RAM.
