How do i put a second router in my house

ImJosh27

I was wondering if there is a way to another router (or some sort of switch) running on the same network in a different spot in my house without running ethernet through it.

btw I have a coaxial cable where I want the second router to be

A mesh router system is probably what you are looking for. You replace your current router with it and put access points throughout your house which act like more routers but all on the same network.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

I would imagine the coax he's talking of is his cable TV/internet network, couldn't inject stuff in there.

You'd have to check with your ISP if you can have a 2nd modem there, but usually it's only one per subscription.

You won’t get anywhere near as good speeds with WiFi, just do the one time thing and run the cable, hell run 2-4 while your at it.

Look in to Moca adpters and maybe a Switch if you want multiple things plugged in via wire. Not going to lie these adapters will be kinda expensive but they generally are better than power line adapters from what I have read.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Yeah I agree with @GDRRiley on this one. But, you could try MoCA since you said there are coax plugs in the room. It's generally faster than powerline but more expensive.

Moca is just to expensive I just want some sort of adapter or something

Okay, bro. There are multiple answers here. What is the reason for ethernet, slow wireless speeds?

Expensive yes, BUT Moca can do around 1 Gbps with the right adapters. Power line your not going to get near that generally, as it depends on your electrical wires and how old it all is and if its even done correctly. The only other option is look at Mesh routers.

Yes, I get like 10-20 megabit download on wifi and 300 with Ethernet I just want to know if I can put a second router with Ethernet ports in a different room

You COULD remove the wall plates and inspect the already existing coaxial cable (given that cable is not being used, and is near the existing router) and see if you can potentially tie an ethernet cable on one end and pull the cable through, and you'll have a cable run and no need for adapters.

Then you can purchase one of these bad boys.

Or, you can just run a cable.

No need, there are tons of desktop 1G+ switches for less than $20.

Not without wiring it in some way to the primary router or internet gateway/modem.

And as @Naterr suggested, you don’t need a router. An unmanaged switch will do just fine for wired connectivity for your computers. And replacing your coaxial cable runs with ethernet or just running ethernet parallel to your coaxial cable runs (which is what I did) is a very smart idea. You can find wall plates with dual ports (RJ45 and coaxial). You’d just have to make sure that all ethernet cables converge and connect to a switch that is itself wired to the modem/gateway or primary router.
