As long as its 80 plus rating it should be fine, I wouldn’t trust a cheap Chinesium unit.

80 plus rating

This rating is completely useless when it comes to quality. Rates efficiency, still might be shit. Plenty of horrible psu's have 80 plus rating.

Yeah but what's the brand and model of the psu? This information is useless as we still don't know what exact psu it is.

Useless info, model name is needed.

If there’s no overclocking at least a name brand 80+ unit will work, if overclocking then yes higher rating the better. But for stock out of box performance an 80+ unit will suffice. That said don’t get a unit from like zongdongchong (made up a name for sake of this) for $15 when instead at least something from a reputable brand like evga or corsair.

Yes but what's the model? They have 20 or so 500w 80 plus psu's. Is it a bq, a supernova, a br, a ...? We need to know that.

This is false. There are plenty of name brand 80+ psu's that are just bad.

We want to help you so could you please give us the information we need. There are psu's from evga that fall under your listed specs that will not safely handle a rx570

Been running an 80+ rating thermaltake unit for about 7 years in my home server and its fine thus far.

Yes that's because it's a good quality psu most likely. Now take like a vs 650 and put a ryzen 3600 + rx 5700 on it and watch if fail in 6 months. Even tho a good 550w psu or even 450w could easily handle that.

There are still good 80+ units that exist, if you do your research they really aren’t rocket science to locate. I’m not claiming all are good nor is it the best idea to get one, but to write them all off without so much as doing simple research is just daft. You clearly misread my post.

that said, yes bronze or better is a smart decision, however if you actually read reviews on a unit before purchasing do that. Most reputable reviewers will use a psu load tester, and if it fails those tests I would stay well away from it. EVGA’s BR series for example, trash psu from a reputable brand.

Your post was very poorly worded then, you said that as long as it's 80 plus and from a reputable brand it will be fine, which is not true.

That means nothing

  • 2 years later...

I found about this the hard way. I got the 750w Huntkey GS750 80white. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 + RX 570 4GB + 2x8 GB DDR4. For two whole years, my PC had frequent crashing, and freezing. It was fairly hard to know which part was malfunctioning due to NOT seeing a Blue Screen. Event Viewer logs are non-existent.

Tried changing the mobo, RAM, GPU and HDD. I didn't even suspect the PSU cuz back then I bought it brand new. But when I was so pissed-off after suffering a system crash for the 1000th time (not exactly a thousand but you get the picture), I bit the bullet and bought a 650w Seasonic S12III Evo 80 Bronze.

Didn't suffer from a crash or freeze after that. Been using it for more than 5 months already without a hitch. Back when I haven't replaced my PSU, it would freeze or crash at least once per day.

Well, that's a pretty bad model. One of the worst Seasonics in years.

Yeah which one. Thermaltake has garbage tier stuff that is known for failiure when pushed even a little and they also have excellent units.

Just because you have used for example their 450 smart 80+ whitr for 5 years with a 2080 doesnt invalidated the MANY others whos pc was killed by it
