JJ from Asus Explains why their SWIFT G-SYNC 2560x1440 monitor is TN

When I see it I'll believe it.

I sold 2 out of 3 of my vg248qe's to buy 1 pb278q, and I'm currently selling the last vg248qe to buy another pb278q. There's literally no comparison to the amount of "better-ness" that the pb278q delivers.  I sat here for like 30 mins changing settings on my vg248qe to try and get it to even remotely look the same, nowhere close.

I understand the vg248qe doesn't have the best panel in the world, and that some TN are much better, but I really don't think a TN can come anywhere close to a high quality IPS panel.

Most PC's can't even drive a 1440p screen at over 60 fps anyways, but the g-sync feature is quite good, although I've never seen it.  I'd like to see it though.

I'm sure I could get 120 fps on 1440p with settings turned down, but then again I guess an 800$ monitor isn't targetted at people that can't run it in the first place.

Haha, and to think that's a pretty entry level panel to boot.

The TN might be able to come close with 8bit color. Never know until we see it go through a proper battery of tests.

120fps is pointless on a monitor with a 60hz refresh rate.

Ahhh yes haha.

I'd be all over this monitor for the thin bezels alone. If it were a more reasonable $549.

I'll hold off judgement until someone does a proper review. Might make it to my monitors of choice if there's a Black Friday sale.

even w/ a proper review.. I honestly can't see 800$ for it.  It's just simply not worth that much IMO.

Totally. $549 is a more reasonable price, and it would be worth it at that price point.

I could even see justification at the $649 price point since it has the G Sync module.

I think $799 is just gouging early adopters.

JJ himself answered me a couple of questions I had regarding this monitor through PMs on youtube, when he posted the 1st video of the ROG monitor in his channel ( CES).

And he told me pretty much the same, instead of having to defy current science and make a stable and super responsive IPS panel, they manufacture the ROG monitor with the highest quality TN panel the could find.

As long as the color looks accurate and the edges are not distorted, it's a very good monitor.

However for that price I still believe modding a 1440p 27" display with a G-Sync module is the best choice.

If you guys think a nice IPS panel is too laggy to play with, I have a Q-Ray ionized bracelet and some kitchen knives that never need sharpening to sell you.

There's a lot of TN haters on the forums, and I'm willing to bet it's because Linus isn't particularly fond of them. I truly don't believe every TN hater on here has experienced an IPS/PLS panel.

I own an IPS panel but I wouldn't hate on a product just because of a particular feature without actually experiencing it first hand.

Still don't know why people loose it over TN panels. If you want a truely snappy response time get a TN, if you want wonderful colours then get an IPS.

*Insert ol del passo girl*

Otherwise why don't you just buy two monitors?

Why not both? My monitor is IPS with 3.4ms ... EIZO Foris FS2333, love it!

Cant use that with Gsync though.. The point is, buy a Gsync monitor for gaming. Keep a secondary IPS screen for things you want fantastic colour in.

I don't have an IPS panel, and I probably have seen one a couple of times but honestly I don't remember much about them.

Is the difference really that major? Why are people freaking out? Is the TN panel going to ruin your experience THAT much?

Putting my HP beside my older Acer TN and crappy insignia TN TV, yeah, it's that big of a difference.  What I wonder about though is when people "claim" poor response times on IPS panels compared to TN when it's like 6ms or 8ms vs 2ms grey to grey.  How big is the difference if you compare coloured screens?  I'd really like to see some blind testing to see if people can actually notice a difference of 4ms.
