are amd gpu's drivers still improving olders cards?

shazammm

saw alot of coments on different forums how lately amd drivers improved olders cards perfomance like the rx 480/580 and others , in comparasion with older nvidia cards which seems to not get the same improvement as amd and fall behind.

is this really true and tested or it's just a placebo

Depends, most of the gains are usually very specific optimizations of newly released games. Improvements for GCN cards are starting to die off, AMD is moving on to their latest architecture and I am guessing they will start retiring GCN cards quite soon.

It all boils down to how bad the drivers were at launch. Traditionally, AMD has launched its GPUs with drivers that didn't yet make the most of the hardware. Hence, as they polished the drivers over time, these GPUs experienced a performance boost that put them more in line with their hardware specs.

There may also be a difference in willingness to implement completely new features into drivers for older cards, but I'm no sure there's a difference either way there, and it will certainly depend on how similar the architecture is between older and newer cards.

hmm saw some videos compararing the rx 570 with gtx 1060 . and the rx 570 surpased the gtx in some numerous titles, when at release point the gtx 1060 was rivaling with rx 580. now there are proably alot of fake benchmarks out there as well

:)

amd driver and improvement is oxymoron

Been using an R9 390 & GTX 970 for the last 3 years. Recently got an RTX 2060 - I'll take AMD's drivers & software any day. Nvidia's control panel hasn't updated since Windows NT & GFE is horribly limited compared to ReLive. Not to mention I'm forced to download the DCH drivers which don't even come with a control panel and I have to get it from the Microsoft store of all places.

Neither is perfect; but right now my wallet is voting AMD.

Apperantly you don't watch Gamers Nexus, but my personal expirience with amd gpu drivers is the same as shown in GN from a very long time, buggy, glitchy and half working, Nvidia does not force DCH drivers, you are doing something wrong, and yes control panel interface feels old in design but it's working and that's what matters to me. Ofc nvidia is not perfect I have seen bugs and issues, but in 15 + years I have never had an major issue with their drivers, and I had alot of major issues with amd drivers, and its a fact that is admited by the industry, not only my opinion, so in drivers department amd need to work a lot more.

I'm under the impression that AMD cards are like fine liquor: the more it's aged the better it is But the problem is that by the time it actually gets those refinements, the card is looking pretty outdated.

GFE won't even install regular drivers on a fresh Windows install & I'm left to get the control panel from M$ store. I don't have any OEM components, which are supposed to be a criteria for DCH, so that's on Nvidia.

But your original comment of AMD not improving is blatant fanboy-ism.

I'll admit the actual driver itself hasn't been an issue with me for either company for years on end but the software package from AMD is kicking ass.

And I do have both AMD & Nvidia in my house, with hardware from both companies going back almost 10 years. Ideally I'd take Nvidia's hardware (or at least their NvEnc) with AMD's software.

The problem with DCH drivers is with windows, as it is windows who chooses them and install them by default, but you can always switch, how? Google it. it's a known issue from Microsoft, be more prepared when you talk...

There is no fanboyism I told you already based on my exp and official reviews confirming those issues by GN, you should research and give facts as I did, but judging by your ignorance about DCH drivers and who's fault is this, I can't accept your opinions to have any credibility to me. have a nice day.
