Is 550W PSU enough?

Yeah but that's not an opinion, that's just wrong. An overclocked i7 and a Radeon VII would draw around 450 watts sustained, at absolute max.

Hi there, I'm putting together a new rig but I would like to use my current 550W power supply.

It's going to be watercooled (so a pump), an overclocked i7-9700K (nothing crazy, like 4.5 Ghz would be fine) and a non overclocked Vega VII

ty for ur thoughts

There are 550W PSU-s in the Tier A+ as well as in Tier D/E, so it might be a great unit or a bad unit.

Which manufacturer and model is it? How old is it?

Indeed, 4.5ghz would be an underclock rather than an overclock hehehe.

I saw on your Profile you've an Enermax Digitalfanless 550W which is adequate for mid tier builds, but given it is fanless and lacks OTP I would refrain from putting a Radeon 7 on it personally.

your PSU should be fine as long as there is some good case airflow for the PSU to make use of.

PSU lacks OTP apperantly (credit: @LukeSavenije)

you know what...in this forum everytime i say my opinion a PRO will bring up that everything said from me is wrong. People ask opinions in here. I said mine regarding the issue with what the fellow asked. I dont have his full pc info yes but with what he said yes it could stand a 550w! on the edge but it would.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

https://www.jonnyguru.com/blog/2015/05/11/enermax-digifanless-550-550w-power-supply/4/ According to Jon, this thing has OTP.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/enermax-digifanless-550w-power-supply,4125.html Aris says the same thing, it has OTP. I believe it even tripped while testing.

The Digifanless is a solid unit. Nothing really wrong with it.

"The" nightjar? There is no "the" Nightjar, there are like 7 different Nightjars. Which one are you talking about?

The two "current" ones are ATX sized NJ600 and SFX-L sized NJ450-SXL. Both support OTP. The next older one, from 2014, is Nightjar NJ520 and it support OTP too. So where did you get it doesn't support OTP from?

ty for all the help, seems like it might be close. I just realized my boyfriend has a 750W, so if it isn't enough and it shuts down we can just trade (his pc draws way less power)

and yes it's the digifanless one, it's pretty nifty

Exactly how old is this unit?  Did you buy it 9 months ago or 3 years ago?

I calculate your full load power usage around 500 to 550 watts.   I think your unit will hold up, but it would make me feel a bit uncomfortable.   It's a solid unit, though.  I don't see any reason to change it out now.

The PRO's aren't the ones who do that. This board has a corps of wannabe PSU experts who are very vocal, but not particularly skilled.  They are the usual suspects.

On one of the fanless nightjars I researched, the review stated that is OTP is faulty and doesn’t work, but it does have it. I’ll find the source of the review when I can.
