I can't see 4k

Withenex

I bought a 4k tv and on watching 4k content on it i have to say i really can't tell the difference unless i have a side by side comparison of 1080p and 4k. My monitor is 1440p and going from 1440p to 4k didn't make that big of a difference to me either. Is it just me?

A TV? How far away around you sitting?

I have a 4K 27" and a 24"+22" 1080p and can clearly tell the difference, but it's more in the detail (small logos and text) + I can just fit more on the screen (many programs work in pixels, so the more pixels I have, the more content).

On a TV you sit farther away, so possible can't tell out the details

My 55" 4k TV looks pixelated AF when Im not about 15-16 feet away.  (If/When my kids break this TV, I will actually be getting a smaller 4k TV for the living room)

My 27" 1440p monitor looks amazing from almost anywhere due to pixel density

My 21" 1080p monitor looks like garbage compared to them both either way.

Also depends on the panel you have in those monitors.

IDK what you were expecting the difference to be? 4K is just about overall clarity in small objects, but as other said pixel density and viewing distance are what make things look sharp, not so much resolution.

its all about that pixel density

you will notice the difference if you sit closer to your tv

There is a noticeable difference, however you wont see it if:

you have poor eye site

you are sitting to far away

the content isnt native &/or bitrate isnt high enough.

in regards to viewing distance:

If your sitting like 10 feet away form a 55" screen, ur not going to notice much of a difference between 1080p and 4k.

A 55" TV , for normal TV media consumption u ideally want to be around the 6 foot distance mark for both a cinematic field of view and to notice a difference between 1080p and 4k.

In regards to monitors, again screen size has t be taken into consideration , but also in game render settings. Using alot of (good) AA for example at 1440p may result in only a subtle difference when then going up to 4k.

That being said.

In regards to monitor use; if one has a 27" 1080p monitor and runs games at 4k on it using internal render settings or DSR, the difference between that and running a 27" 4k monitor at native 4k, wont be very big.

Bassicaly it really depends on what ur comparing. If ur comparing 1440p resolution and rendering without AA vs 4k resolution and rendering without AA, it should be obviose at the same monitor size.

if however ur using AA, and/or are using down-sampling/higher than native rendering resolution on the lower resolution monitor, the difference will be harder to notice.

I can see 4k but i can't really tell the difference between 4k and lower resolutions as well as say comparing 720p to 1080p. I remember back when youtube added hd video playback and that shit blew my mind (I was a little kid). Nowadays I have a 4k tv and I can't see as dramatic a difference, it seems miniscule to me.

Streamed source or bluray source.

IE 25Mbps or 50mbps... pretty different...

Backend Video data bitrates also matter...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
