Don't rub wool socks on carpet in a dry environment, otherwise you'll be fine.

Of course it does. Otherwise, it would probably be dead right now.

You'll be fine.

For reference, while I highly don't recommend this:

I've built a PC on carpet in a old house with no grounding anywhere. NEVER do this.

I heard the best way to get rid of ESD is to do the Firefly and hold it for 5 minutes.

Touch the case to discharge prior to handling PCBs.  I literally wear wool socks on carpet and have zero worry about ESD.  Maybe in 1990 when things were not so protected I didn't moonwalk back then while PC building but I do moonwalk with the wool socks today...because metal case.  Be confident in what you are doing, you are already aware of ESD, just rid yourself of it while working on the PC

stop watching videos like esd and you in youtube!

kill a pc or a ram module via esd would require a big enough discharge to make you scream and run away in pain

remember not to touch the gold colored side of the ram modules so it doesnt get dirty

never work in a pc without your shoes, specially over a carpet

all should go well, remember to seat properly the ram modules so it clicks on place and enjoy your ram upgrade

I've built literally thousands of systems, in my younger days, the shop we used had carpet floors..... YEA NOT SMART.

In the thousands of systems I've built, I can count on 1 hand the amount of hardware I've fried via ESD.

You're fine man :)

This depends more on your environment than anything else.

Is your PC chasis not metal?, Do you not have a metal table? What about a metal power strip/surge protector? During dry winters, you're likely to get ESD, and the easiest way to avoid that is touching metal stuff before handing the PC.

A lot of DELL laptops, I get ESD zaps from around the touchpad buttons/gaps in the frame near the touchpad, when the environment is like that. During any other time, that doesn't happen.

If you know ESD to be an issue, use a grounding strap. Even a lazy version of this is taking your shoes and socks off and then just resting your feet on something that is grounded.

The part you'll most likely kill with ESD is the RAM or CPU by accident... by dropping it on something charged.

if the house is not properly grounded and you do it without shoes all you will get from that is a discharge or worse

better not try weird ideas like walk half of the house to discharge, walk back to where you have the pc and in the process recover all the esd you could have discharged in the first place

that is what you know, or believe to know, but your apartment is not the same of any other apartment in the rest of the planet, remember that a forum is visited by people around the world, and not every country has strict regulations about grounding, wirings, security in general, so one should take that onto consideration
