EH itself will continue operating at least until the end of 2020 unless anything unexpected happens, and possibly indefinitely beyond that. While I'm not really that interested in running a neutered site on a personal level, and considering the tendon injury and inevitable rioting that will take place, it is not unlikely that no more development will take place and that I will retire at that point - however, I do recognize the importance of this site, so the ultimate outcome here has not been settled, and will depend on a number of factors.

 

I'm not sure which legislative changes Tenboro means, but they relate to the more questionable hosted on ExHentai, such as loli and shota. It's sad that so much content has to be removed, but I'm certain that most of it has been uploaded elsewhere and isn't lost.

I understand why Tenboro decided to shut it down. Migrating so much data is extremely painful and time consuming. Kinda his fault though for not hosting it in the US in the first place.

We've had this discussion before over in tech news.

If something is related to technology, no matter how thinly (even "the US bans the Boeing 737" was "tech news"), it can be posted in tech news.

We've had changes to websites such as "massdrop rebranded as drop" in tech news too because "websites are tech".

 

And you can not use the excuse of "yes, but this is porn-related" either because threads about things such as ashley madison were allowed as well.

If they were smart, they could relocate to Vietnam. The laws on shotacon and lolicon are basically nonexistant in terms of fictional media. It would be a smart move. OR they could just have that section of the site hosted there. I'm sure theres a way to make it happen, they just have to think.

I know to some this was just porn, just hentai... and if you see it that way I understand why you would and I'm sorry you can't see how one of the last havens of true wild west internet is now gone. Thats 50 terabytes of art that just burned much original and much that could only be found there, yes there was a lot of really fucked up shit that went with it but god dammit there was a lot of really good shit there. It was bassically 4 chan to a lot of us... the mos eisley cantina of the internet where you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany, but what did you find there? huh... shit like Han fucking Solo stroking his Wookie and awesome shit. And just like the cantina they didn't let just anyone wander in, no droids allowed no cute little R2D2's and no buzzkill C3PO's and yeah sometimes somebody lost an arm, shit happens acknowledge it then go back to your business playing yours music and having your drinks. And if you never went there I both envy and pity you, for now you neither feel the loss nor ever get the chance to see it, because there were treasures to be found but alas... I mean my metaphore isn't perfect admittedly, it was pretty much just hentai... but it was an endless archive of hentai that had everything you ever wanted and then always more and now it's gone... goodnight, sweet prince and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, RIP and shitz...

Rumors has it that someone has archived it. I've seen screenshots of a ~45TB archive and I believe one of the sad panda mods has confirmed that it's real, including the fjord content.

Let's hope some other site takes its place, because it truly was a very valuable resource. It was fantastic both from an archival POV (it had a ton of content that didn't exist anywhere else, and other sites used it as their source) but also from a technical standpoint. It had its own crowd sourced CDN with several gigabits of bandwidth all around the world. It also had its own, really good ranking and tagging system based on trust, which will take a ton of time to replicate, if it's even possible.

Tenboro has made an update to the original retirement update.

First of all, he changed this sentence from this:

I made the addition of the word "alleged" bold and underlined it.
