Do you think 15" business laptops need more than 1080p res

Should a strictly business laptop have a 1080p panel or 1440p

  1. 1. Which panel do you think should be the standard for 15" laptops

Got in a small discussion online, and the other person said 1440p is the only good option. They also very few professionals would choose a 1080p display, and that anything less than 1440p is keeping laptops from progressing.

I don't really understand how it's keeping laptops from progressing, but that's just me.

Personally I don't see an issue with a 1080p panel, and haven't had a single complaint from any of my customers.

They didn't specify the job but the post was in regards to general office work and programming.

What's the workload like? Programming, documents, content creation, something else? That affects a lot, as well as what size screens are used.

15" laptop was specifically being noted, just basic documents and maybe some programming.

That's exactly what I said and they responded with some pretty vulgar comments lol

From someone who has worked in IT for government agencies here in the US and large companies they aren't going to pay more for something so trivial IMO. Most of them even went with 1366x768 to save even more $$ on bulk orders.

I would agree, as you are doing non graphic intensive things. Heck, it's really low graphic intensive, so I would support 768p.

1440p because even my 7 year old laptop can 1080p. Companies should give you a reason to upgrade

15'6 inches looks perfectly fine on 1080p and it is the sweetspot by ever mean.

No, 1366x768p is a pile of hot garbage and force any employer to work on a shitty resolution screen such as this is unethical.

Depends on what you use it for... an graphics artist or photographer may need the extra resolution (and 1440p might not even be enough for them) but for many workloads 1080p is perfectly fine. It also depends on the price of the laptop.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I mean, I never said I liked it, but I would support the decision, considering that they are writing documents and programming. But it's subjective, and so I respect your opinion.

We issue them at the AFB I work at and haven't had a single complaint. All of our Doctors and Nurses use them without a single problem. I really don't think it's unethical lol

At 15" 1440p is overkill, unless you specifically require high PPI for photo editing or any kind of digital creativity. 1080p won't really start to look pixelated until you're going beyond 20". You've also got added battery consumption if you're driving a high res display to consider. I have a 24" 1440p display myself and can tell you that anything smaller would really be pointless, the pixel density is already very crisp at this size.

Personally (and this is just my experience), I haven't met many people, even working in IT, that are fully aware of the difference between 1080p and 1440p. If you started handing out 1440p laptops to staff, I'd bet that 99% of them wouldn't even recognise the improvement, especially on a screen that size. Would be a waste of money in my opinion. Use the extra cost on making sure staff have SSDs or something, they'll notice much more improvement with that.
