Witcher 3 100fps?

Hey, 

 

I’m upgrading my current rig I need to know if these components will be powerful enough to run The Witcher 3 at a smooth 100fps. 

 

An i7-9700K, RTX 2070, and 16gb ddr4 clocked at 3200mhz. 

 

Everythig else (psu, has, etc.) is already in my rig. I’m just upgrading the key components. Does anyone know if it’ll run the game at this frame rate?

1080p you should, 1440 and up you wont.

1080p FOR SURE. 1440p I would guess yes too, but maybe you have to tweak a few settings.

Also im considering hairworks to be off or at least not maxed, because it just cuts so many fps that its never worth it.

I’m wanting 1080p on ultra. I don’t plan on using hairworks. It’s not worth the frame rate drop.

Yeah with those specs at 1080p on Ultra with hairworks off you can for sure get 100fps.

I'll give you an insight, CPU and memory wise you have sufficient to get to 100fps.

 

GPU wise you will fall short of 100fps if you're targeting max settings, you will have to at least disable HairWorks I believe, and that's considering 1080p.

 

The RTX 2070 is a bad value card either ways, I highly advise waiting until December in order to buy something if you're planning a build, same thing with the R7 3800X may be better CPU for the 9700K's price point, worth checking it out.

With those specs, running The Witcher III in 1080p, you can get above and beyond a smooth 100 fps. If you do a mix of Ultra to High graphic settings, you're looking at around 124-139 fps. If you were to completely customize the graphic settings in a way that maximizes fps without losing those Ultra-like visuals, you can easily achieve a locked 144 fps. I kid you not.

 

When you choose to max everything out, and I mean everything, Hairworks, AA, everything, you can still achieve around 83-97 fps averaging pretty much a smooth 90 fps. Set Hairworks to Geralt only, you're lookin' at around 91-106 fps. Turn Hairworks completely off, around 97-112 fps.

 

Bare in mind though, like in most open world games, your fps will vary in populated areas of the game. And in a game like TW3, your fps will shoot down a good 20-40 fps in more populated areas. You will see more hardware usage there as well. The good thing about TW3 is that even though fps goes down in these areas, it remains at a constant and very stable fps when you choose to explore area to area. Expect to see fps up and down when you travel in and out of these areas. And the fps rise and fall is not instant, it's like a smooth and slow crawl if you know what I mean. A pleasant transition not breaking the gaming experience in any way.

Tough to provide a clear cut answer to this. It mostly depends on each mod and that's something you'd have to fiddle around with yourself. Visual mods should increase VRAM and GPU usage. Mods that change artificial intelligence should increase CPU usage. Also depends on the mods code and how much time was spent making it efficient. Some mods can improve fps by removing certain things in the world.

 

I'd say to choose less visual mods but at the same time, add them one at a time and then exploring the entire world to see how they affect performance.
