Well isn't this just the most half assed video.  The entire thing is "we replaced the battery"....woooowwwwwww.  3D print a G Pro Wireless shell for it you lazy fucks.

I've seen this done thousands of times, you literally spent eight minutes going over why and how to replace the battery on a G305.

I thought it was going to get interesting and you guys would've 3D-printed a honeycomb shell for it.

Disappointment.

with all the hate in the youtube comments and some here

let me actually counter it with praise.

i REALLY REALLY enjoyed this video. people always expect "over the top, linus drops hardware worth several thousand dollars" videos

whereas I appreciate it even more if you guys release videos which .. well actually we can relate to!

90%+ of the viewer base would probably not do anything more than "just replacing" the battery as a mod.

almost nobody has a 3d printer. nobody would ever cut their newly bought mouse open.

and really, showing a cool mod which is super simple yet with such a big effect!

this video should deserve way more praise cus it actually caters to the people!

the video with the $69 PC was a total meme video

the pc built for $400 for instance i also enjoyed again.

while i also love "LTT over the top" style vids, I love videos like this one even more.

No, people expect videos that aren't half assed.

To be quite frank, the only thing LTT has done right over the past few years is production value. Everything else went to shit. Think how """Star Wars fans""" talk about the prequels in comparison to the original trilogy, except in LTT's case the OG trilogy was actually better.

Everyone has access to 3d printing services.  Tons and tons of people and companies will print whatever you want for a small fee.

The whole point of the video was supposed to be "we made a cheaper Pro Wireless" when really they didn't at all.  They made a lighter G305.  And even at that they didn't even make the lightest G305possible because they left the original shell.

Shaving weight off the battery and/or even replacing the shell with 3D printed options is great, but unfortunately does not bring back the make-or-break feature found in the G700s - the hyper-scroll wheel. As an avid gamer, web developer, and technical document creator, I cannot use a mouse that doesn't have a hyper-scroll wheel. Really wish Logitech would understand that gamers don't just game on their PCs and bring back the hyper-scroll wheel in some of their gaming mice.

Who's idea was it to do a clickbait like this? Or think of the script for this video?

It lacks so much content and you guys justified it by saying "Oh, we replaced the batteries, and put a tiny battery, cut off the plastic, or put an aluminum and THATS IT! THE VIDEO ENDED"

"If you thought this video sucked, which it didn't" Confident in your words, it did suck.

And everyone says it loudly, why not remove this video.. say sorry... and make a better one, with actual 3D printed shell, how to replace it etc (Cuz I do have a 3D Printer store that can actually make that for me) and show us how you do it like you guys ALWAYS do.

Didn't feel like LTT for me, felt too rushed, too quick to release. Just because you have millions of people watching you, doesn't mean you got to cut down on effort.

Why does the design look so rough?  Is it the material/ print process you use?  That surface texture doesn't look comfortable at all

when James said that most people don't have a 3D printer that they were going to use more normal tools.
Like a drill, and then clean up the burrs with a knife, but not even that?!

Since 3D printing does cost money, the plastic filament isn't free. So to meet that cost budget, a drill would be easy, since a lot of people have one somewhere.

The video is more of a beginners guide i guess.

But no one should ever suggest tinfoil and tape to hold a lithium battery.

'Mod' ?

erm .. no.

Changing the battery isnt a mod lol.

When you mentioned 3d printed shells, but then trashed the idea due to availability i expected you to start doing something janky like drilling holes in the stock shell. You didnt even do that :P

TBH me personally, i dont like a super light mouse. They feel cheap. But i can understand wanting a balanced mouse. My MSI Clutch GM70 isnt exactly balanced well at all but i put the need for a thumb AND pinky rest , combined with a Optical 3360 sensor above the need for balanced weight distribution. Besides if i did add that to my list of needs i wouldn't have a mouse at all since one doesnt exist that fits those requirements.

I wanted to ask someone how you actually do accurate 3D models for curvy surfaces like a mouse shell.  If I didn't already own a Pro Wireless I'd be super interested in modeling the shell and changing the internal mount points to fit G305 parts, but I have no idea how you do that without either a lot of trial and error or spending a lot of money to have a point-cloud 3D scan done (Creaform scanners ain't cheap)

Kinda crap video, so little effort made.

Would have loved to see you use a flat lithium battery that weights around 3.5-4g along with a 1-2g dc-dc converter to bring down 3.7..4.2v to around 1v ... shave a few more grams.

Or, I would have loved to see a QI wireless received hacked in along with a super capacitor that weights maybe a couple grams.

Hide the QI charger under the mousepad, and the supercapacitor can charge with enough energy to keep the mouse running for maybe 10-20 minutes without any charging... as it sits on the qi charger it constantly charges (you want some buffer as sudden movements of the mouse can cause the qi charger to lose efficiency or reconnect often).

Not even some strategic drilling of holes into the bottom to lose another gram or so of weight?

You could even have coin cell style lithium rechargeable batteries... see this link with list of coin style rechargeable batteries

You get a 3.7...4v 150mA coin cell that weights 4g and add a 1-2g dc-dc convert and you get your 200h+ of life.

and as added bonus the weight is probably even better centered, spread over the coin area instead of a bar shape

This was a pretty serious letdown. I was really hoping to see the printing and troubleshooting process for that 3D printed mod, maybe a breakdown of other battery hacks and fully expected the closing segment to be a fake out and to see the final, most optimized mod brought out at the end of the video, aaaannddd...nope. That's it. 8 minutes on "replace the battery and also there's a 3D print mod you could try".
