BOINC Pentathlon 2019

Go to solution Solved by jakkuh_t,

Seems like the easiest way for most people to help out is in the Marathon.

This involves downloading BOINC, selecting the "World Community Grid" project, and then selecting the sub-project "OpenZIKA".

1. Download + Install BOINC (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

2. Open BOINC and click "Add Project"

3. Select the "World Community Grid" project, and then click on their website url. (https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/discover.action)

4. On their Website, click "Join Now" at the top left or right depending. Enter your information and Register.

5. Once presented with the Sub project selection, choose "OpenZIKA" and click next. It will download a program, but you don't need it.

6. Go back to the BOINC app and click "Next >". Login with the World Community Grid account that you just signed up for.

Your BOINC app will now benchmark your system, and then start running.

BUT, you still need to set your team to the LTT forum one.

7. Navigate to the team selection page, and login if you aren't already (https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/team/viewMyTeam.do)

8. Type in "LinusTechTips" in the "Contains:" field.

9. Click on the "LinusTechTips_Team" result that shows up. Once the page loads click "Join Team".

You will now be BOINCing for the LTT team :D

This is the easiest way to help out the cause, but there are more beneficial / advanced ways to do so if you're interested. Refer to the OP for more information.

Einstein wtf

Also got my server today sadly I'll need to buy thermal paste :| I'll try my best getting it to run today but no promises. (CPU/RAM is installed, weirdly got a note to put the CPU in properly...)

Edit: random empty case won't fit the server, need to yank out my P4 :| I'll do that after I get thermal paste.

128 threads crunching OpenZIKA. I should be around about 1100 results/day.

As great a cooler as the NH-D9L is the fan it comes with just doesn't move enough air for a 16 core Xeon. I'm currently looking into industrial fans like from Delta. For the future I can't have my server all opened up when it's under load.

Are you also running ZIKA? it could be it's hogging your CPU cycles. Im off for a chest x-ray, if that goes okay I shout be home in an hour and I'll send you my settings if that is the case.

I found that running concurrent tasks has a detrimental effect on most GPUs. Especially lower end GPUs.

I will switch it back to 1, doesnt really hurt my 1060  but am losing extra cores i could have on zika for no gain then.

???  That don't sound right.  My 1080Ti spits out WUs at around 7-8 mins if I'm not mucking around in Minecraft.  xD

Aye they are. It's quite impressive actually as it's matching my water cooled 1080.

Yep, I sometimes miss my 7970 as it was my former BOINC card.  It is actually with tictoc over on OCN now.  I wonder if he still has it.

1900X with GTX960 FTW is doing WCG OpenZika and Einstein@Home.

1950X is bunkering NFS again and 1080Ti FTW3 is doing Einstein@Home.

I plan to get the i3 in my lappy fired up here as well to throw at WCG OpenZika as well.

We going to need to output some numbers.  With E@H to soon done, that will free threads up that where feeding the GPUs.

I was more wondering if you think dialing back on marathon to their note at the sprint will make sense.

Although until we know the situation with @leadeater we can't really go making many decisions.

Yeah, hopefully leadeater is not fully out.  :I

Probably can dail a bit back on Marathon, but have to be careful, some teams try to take an advantage when others daily back this late in the Pent.

Below are the 3 rigs I'm running. I've mostly been running Zika on my cpus, and Einstein on the gpus. I switched my Einstein settings to go to 1 task to gpu to free up some cpu power, but will take a little while to get through my backlog. Planning on redirecting some cpu power to NFS for Javelin, and can throw some at LHC for the Sprint.

1. 1950x and 2 x Radeon VII's

2. 2700x and vega 64 and 1080 ti (will be taking 1080 ti offline once current tasks run out, since it isn't worth it in our current position and will be able to redirect those threads)

3. 1800x and 2 vega 64's

I've moved all but 1 server off Marathon to Sprint bunker, been that we for an hour or so. My work PC is still also doing Marathon (8700 non k).

And everything is 'fine'.

So it turns out the only computer case I actually own that can hold the server board is the one I'm using right now for my system. So I won't be able to get it working till I can get the chassis...

So unless I buy this (which feels like a dumb idea) I won't likely get it running till after the event, unless someone can think of some crazy crap I could try :P

You still have all my phones running (i've even got my main runner running while it's on on my breaks and to and from work) my 6 core OVH server and this computer along with some random cheap laptop thing. I won't be putting me P4 back on because it consumed 100watts and only provided the equivalent to 1 of my phones.
