LTT Conglomerate main discussion thread

I don't see a need to break them up, I think everyone here can read one line at a time. If there's more than one question per line then they're directly related or one will answer the other. A lot of those questions are yes and no questions.

I guess I can join the org now, cya in a bit.

Well for me atleast it help alot, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.. Anyways, I'll be in the org chat for anyone who wonna chat / ask questions about the game :)

Everyone have a cool signature. I don't, so I thought I would write something.

- Cool right?

Why is the archetype syndicate? from the jobs listed and the functions of councils I see this being more of an Organization archetype. Not that it really matters but just curious why you picked syndicate.

Also is there a ship requirement for certain roles? If I have a cutlass does it mean I'll be in piracy?

EDITED:

Either way I still think the forum is the best place to discuss this specially I'm pretty sure more people will want to know the answers.

Also, can you answer the questions I'm asking? I'm not looking for a discussion, I'm looking for answers. It can all be discussed and polished, but first I need to know these answers to know whether or not I'm interested in joining.

The archetype is syndicate because it's a bunch of different groups working together for a similar goal :P  There is no ship requirement for a particular role. We're not going to restrict what you can do within the game.

I'm interested in joining but I'd like a "little bit" more info.

Could you explain the difference between exploration and mining? Because I don't find that exploration/salvaging and mining are so different from each other that require different groups.

Won't a piracy group set the tone for an entire clan? If the piracy group attacks another clan then chances are we'll get a bounty and every, mainly the traders, miners or explorers, will have a bigger target on their head. In any other game if the scout/military group attacks someone in another clan then that would mean an open war and in SC it will be no different. Either no one is a pirate or everyone is a pirate.

What does the engineering group do?

I didn't understand the purpose of the military group. Is it a separate group or will every member be in the military group? Will there be members who belong exclusively to the military group? How will the military group make money?

Will the military group be escorting the traders/miners/explorers?

Atm there's only two people on the high council, how many are you planning on having? What "fiscal" benefits do people on the high council get? Is it any different from any regular member's? Also, will you two belong to another group?

You said that the leaders of the groups would be elected. What about the high council? If a better leader is found would you be willing to step down?

What is your aim with this organization? How big do you want it to grow? What is your target demographic? Is there an age limit? Will it consist of people from LTT or is anyone welcome?

How casual will this organization be? Will it require a minimum activity?

What is your experience running guilds/clans/organizations in other MMOs? Do you have any experience in closer to sand-box games where there's open PvP and anyone can kill anyone?

Is the organization really be called "The Unofficial LTT Conglomerate" or is that name just temporary? If so, what are the names you're currently thinking of?

I can probably get a 500 slot TS3 server for about 20€ a year or so (hosted on a VPN). I own 32 slot one for friends and friends of friends and if you need more than 32 you'll need a license, which is free for non-profit organizations such as a clan or guild. However, this is not possible if there's an affiliation with a for-profit organization such as LTT.

Well there is a difference in Mining Exploring and Salvaging.

Exploring = Indian Jones/Lara Craft in space

Mining= Some dude with a Drill/Pickaxe/Mining Laser  Sitting all days on Rocks in space.

Salvaging= garbage truck with cutting tools.

Mining and Salvaging are The best friends with Manufacturers of all kinds, like Gun, Ship, Ammo and etc etc Makers.

The pirate part confused me, clans? do you mean an organization? well yes but look at it this way. Pirates = The Darker side of a Organization.

Its true that This could lead to alot of Wars if we pillage the wrong people. choice your target wisely....otherwise we will just crush them and get even more loot <3.....OK but yes i kinda agree this could lead to trouble but i dont know how SC will handle pirating. also i DONT think Wars and whatnot will be like EVE ONLINE... time will tell.

Engineering= Make stuff i believe. they are (I THINK) the hard working people that are best friend with the Miners/Salvagers that bring them candy and in return make Doomsday weapons...or flash light.

Not sure how Ixi and Co have this in mind but the way "i" se it is like this:

Roles and money for Military:

You get hired to protect transports, Miners. = money and whatnot

NPC battles = Money and whatnot

WAR = economical i dunno how this will work but meh.

Like i said im not Sure how it will be but to me the military should be combined with Mercenaries to broaden there usefulness and Income for the Pilots. What do you think Ixi?

Leadership and the Council i cant answer. im not part of it.

Same with End Goals and that gibberish, i leave it ixi and Co to answer that.

Active time = Same here..cant answer but i believe there is a little limit on how long you can remain inactive UNLESS you provide the information on WHY your inactive.

Cant answer here but personally i do have experience :) Just saying.

The Remaining Questions are sadly unanswerable for me....again  :) But i do hope this helped you in any way.

Edit: Hmmm...."in deep thoughts".....yeah i...yeah...ill just leave this as it is and hope @ixi_your_face Corrects whatever errors i made If any  :D

Exactly. Why are they separated? Shouldn't they be working as closely as possible?

When I said clans I was talking about other games as an example. Also, it's not about  wars where everyone in one org gets together to fight, it's about wars where every time one of theirs sees one of ours then someone will get killed. This means that even the safer cargo routes will become more dangerous. Explorers and miners will face higher dangers as well because whenever someone sees one of ours they'll think "It's a pirate, I better shoot him down before he shoots me down."

Engineering= Make stuff i believe. they are (I THINK) the hard working people that are best friend with the Miners/Salvagers that bring them candy and in return make Doomsday weapons...or flash light.

What mechanics are there that allow this? Are there professions? Because in most games even if you have a profession it's still more like a part time. Most people can't dedicate their entire time to crafting and the majority of the time will actually be dedicated to gathering. If in another game you're a miner/blacksmith then you'll be mining 95% of the time and blacksmithing 5%.

To me engineers, miners and explorers should all be in the same group because each groups is dependent on the other.

Basically, I don't see why it's better to be dividing the "production" groups when they should be working very closely together. They could be divided, but right now each group seems pretty much independent of each other.

Either way, there's not much use discussing this without ixi's answers.

But there's not much use discussing this without ixi's answers.

Yeah also the reason Salvagers and Miners are seperate is because they:

1: use diffrent equipment

2: the "Materials" and "Minerals" are different Components used in Crafting.

Minerals mined: Can come in diffrent Quality, then they need to be refined into Raw materials and then manipulated into whatever.

Salvaged Materials: Mostly broken crap from old stuff that often needs to be recycled into something usefull, tend to have "avarage" quality BUT can be used faster then minerals. also if your lucky you can Salvage something that actually still Works!!

Engineers: Roles are set by yourself, This is not a RPG. If you want to be an engineer you mostly focus all your money on buying Machinery for Crafting. and no your right about Dedicated time, Most of the time Engineers are actually Miners and salvagers, But this part is still in the UNKNOWN Because the Game itself havent even reached that far. not even mining and salvaging to be honest.

Now that i think about it you got a point. some of the "rolls" above SHOULD be merged and i do believe they will in due time when the game matured abit more and more information is out but for now they are separate.

About the Pirate part,i agree, it is a future problem. but like above, in due time.

They are different jobs, but from what I understood each group is supposed to act practically independent from each other, which doesn't make sense since they should be dependent and working with each other. My problem is with how viable is it for a miner to be just a miner and not a miner+explorer+engineer all at the same time? Is dividing into groups beneficial when each person can have multiple roles beneficial? I don't think so. Also, will it make it easier to organize the clan or will it do the opposite? I don't think having people in different groups will make it easier to quickly put together a squad for an exploration/mining mission.

Here's what I propose:

High council - 3 members, 1 for each time zone.

Group Leaders - 3 members, 1 for each time zone.

Squad Leaders - As many as needed.

Everyone else - literally everyone else.

I imagine we will work in squads, with more than one type of ships, be it miners+explorers+military or military+traders or anything really. Group leaders would be managing how well each "sector" of the org, basically doing secretarial work. There's no point in trying to lead the miners or traders or the military as a group, because if the game works in squads then what'll happen is whenever there's people on someone will ask "anyone wants to go explore?" and someone else will say "sure, I can take my <insert ship here> for guard duty". Dividing it up into actual groups will just introduce needless bureaucracy. However, keeping track of the clan's capabilities, number of ships, stuff farmed, who can do what, etc. will be required. It will also be necessary to eventually raise money to buy a better ship for particular missions, and it'll be the explorer's job to say, for example, "We don't have any starfarers for long exploration missions, we need to use X org cash to buy it. The ship will be given to person Y because so, so and so."

Each squad will require a leader, and this leader would just be someone who organizes the squad and leads the mission. Someone who says "For this we need X people for guard duty, at least one of Y-type ships and one miner. I suggest we go to that system." This wouldn't be a special position within the clan, it's just a position that needs to be fulfilled. Someone who knows what they're doing needs to take the lead and as such those people need to be distinguished for purely organizational purposes.

The high council or the group leaders wouldn't necessarily be in charge in a mission, no matter how big it is. The best tactician of the clan might just be a squad leader. However, the high council would be responsible to regulate any problems within the clan as well as choose the direction for the clan to take.

Everyone else would be in the same big group and roles would be defined for each mission. In term of special engineers/crafters it could be decided by the group leaders/high council because chances are there will be some rare recipes or plans or whatever and a dedicated org engineer will be required. It would also be beneficial to have a different dedicated engineer for each type of crafting, so if one leaves or stops playing the losses will be minimized.

People would pay taxes to the clan, and maybe clan organized mission could donate an additional % of their profit, and this would be used to get those patterns/designs, actual ships or just outfitting existing ships to improve the squads' performance.

I just don't see how dividing everyone in groups will be beneficial for the clan. It will just make it harder to organize missions and it will end up being really confusing the moment people start having more than one type of ship because you will no longer be tied down to a single group. I say this because even in simpler games like minecraft, which seems like it would make sense to divide people into gatherers, builders and warriors, this type of structure ends up actually being irrelevant and bypassed. I've found that, in all the games I played so far, having key people that know what they're doing and are capable of leading a mission is all that's needed. Once you have that person it's easy to look at the pool of current online players and form a party for whatever type of mission it is.

Regarding the piracy part. The direction of the clan just needs to be decided. Either we're all pirates or none of us are. There's not much point in having a group dedicated to piracy since everyone else would be labelled as such. Also, it's easier to turn an honest org into pirates than pirates into an honest org, so I'd say start as a normal org and decide after the clan has matured.

I didn't want to discuss this now because Ixi's idea might be better and I just didn't understand the reasoning, maybe even the view I have for a clan is simply different than his or my opinion can be simply unwanted, but now I can't help thinking about it. Anyway, this is my opinion on how to structure an organized yet flexible org.

Holy mole, you are hardcore :P

I see what you mean now from our "discussion" earlier. I like this way of running an org too, but from my experience, having only a few leaders deciding something from time to time (i know that's boiled down) will end in chaos and confusion if the org gets too big. But I fully agree with you when we're talking about a smaller org. Obviously you don't have as many to so you would need people to be able to very fast switch into another suit and fit a different role.

As for the piracy.. Couldn't agree more, It'll be incredibly difficult to keep pirates and traders separated in terms of reputation if they are a member of the same org, ALTHOUGH, there might be exceptions.:

For the next big update of organisations, Cloud Imperium (makers of Star Citizen for you who does not know) will make it possible to join multiple ones.

So basically what could happen is a pirate being a member of a pirate org of some sort, AND being a member of the LTT org. He will operate in the piracy org, although he can make use of perks from both. And the LTT org will end up being to this pirate more of a "Hey, I'm an LTT forum member" and not so much a reflection of the orgs reputation.

Everyone have a cool signature. I don't, so I thought I would write something.

- Cool right?

Actually I find the exact opposite to be true. The larger the org the more flexibility will help organization and make it much easier. One thing that might help is have classes and have each group leader give ratings that depend on one's skill and in-game ships/etc. I could be a class B explorer, class C fighter, class C trader, class A engineer and Class 0 miner. Each rating given out by the group leaders which would enable the squad leaders to more easily structure a party.

I guess different experiences collide ;)

Only time, after the game has been fully released, will tell. Trial and error will form a system that works for the game, the org and the players involved

Really? You can be in several orgs?

One more question for ixi then:

Will active members be allowed to be in other orgs as well? Will the be a position for honorary members who remain on this org for purely social/casual reasons but are active on a different org?

Again, you don't have to give these answers now, it's still months till dogfighting comes out and even longer till proper beta.
