In the day and age of triggers...you cant tell me having a car of any brand can trigger people? Can it? I mean I guess people can say they are a cat and that's fine...

 

Well OP - do it, it wont trigger me.  And for those it triggers...F em they were looking for something to cry about anyways.

So i turn 18 on friday. Im going on vacation for a week and a half. So it will probably be around June before I could get a decent downpayment and build enough credit for it. but i plan to get a similarly priced and speced car as to this: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-Mitsubishi-Lancer-Evolution-d423#listing=231588560

If you can afford to keep the car on the road (fuel, insurance etc.) then by all means go ahead. The Evo X is a great car, my brother used to have one. 

If you can't, then perhaps it might be best to stick to something like a Honda Civic (maybe a Type R?).

Eh depends what you make at work, really.  I wouldnt get a $20k car if I had to put it on a 8 year payment or something.

He's right.  If you can't pay off your car in three years buy a cheaper car.

Maintenance on Evos is expensive. 3000 mile service intervals IIRC (at least in the UK), and then stuff will break, and it will be expensive. Just because you can afford loan repayments doesn't mean you can afford to run an Evo. Great cars, but epic costs.

So you're planning to finance the entire cost of the car? If so, I'd definitely advise against doing it.

 

Still, it really comes down to your personal finances. If you feel like you can comfortably afford it, then I don't see why you shouldn't be doing it. I bought what had been a very expensive car to me at 21 and I never regretted it. As long as you're a responsible driver and insured against everything else, you can sell it at anytime and get most of your money back.

My dad owns a mechanic shop, and I plan to go into the business as well. So I'm only paying parts. And at that. I'm only paying a portion or over the counter costs from parts stores
