When I go on razer's website, I see an option for the new stealth without a dedicated GPU.... Am I missing something or was the whole premise of this video a lie?

yeah i saw that in the video itself actually, so i wasnt sure what all the fuss was about, i mean i guess the other options with a gpu are expensive but i mean it isnt breaking news that razer is a bit pricey

What was a lie? I'm not sure what you're getting at, the laptop that Linus reviewed is the model with an MX150 GPU in it.

I don't usually mind the clickbait but the title could have been worded a bit better like "Sorry,Razer i'm not switching from my old Razer Blade". The title "Sorry Razer i'm not switching"  kind of implies that Linus doesn't like the laptop before you even watch the video.

And people whining that the videos are clickbait, Linus still tells you what he doesn't like about a product so that isn't selling out,LTT is a business and he has to make money from the videos that we get to enjoy for free, what works with the Youtube algorithm is clickbait titles and exciting thumbnails, everyone else does it so anyone that wants their videos to have views has to have clickbait titles. The LTT videos on Youtube are free to watch, if you don't want to see the clickbait titles you can either sub to Floatplane or choose to not watch the videos.

Uh well yeah high end gaming laptops are expensive it's not just Razor.

If I remember the video correctly, Linus specifically said (and I'm paraphrasing) "I'm not switching because a dedicated GPU in a laptop like this is pointless and will just kill battery life." To me, that implied that ALL of the new razer blade stealths had dedicated GPUs. No where did he mention that there does exist a new razer blade stealth without a dedicated gpu..... One that would be a perfect replacement for his stealth....

 

You can claim it's a business all you want. The sellout claim still stands. LTT has changed their content to make more money, despite the large majority of that content not resonating with the original subscribers to the channel. It's literally textbook sellout. Did it have to be done? No. Look at bitwit, look at Jayz. Do they have 30+ employees and multiple huge warehouses full of stuff?

 

No. No they don't. Linus grew the company because he wanted to make more money at the expense of decent content. Pretty much exactly what game devs are doing now. "If we push out a lot of shitty content and hype the shit out of it we can make more money than if we take the time to make good content."

He very clearly explains near the middle of the video that you cannot get touch without going for the full 4K + Mx150 model. His current model has a 3200x1800 screen and touch.

 

Generally speaking there's no bad advice in this video - if you have a stealth now and it's working there's no real pressing reason to upgrade to this model.

I saw the flex in their laptop line on a LTT video, unacceptable. There is zero flex in my MacBook, and for that price - and minus the Mac tax, I'd expect so too for the Razer laptops. 

 

What really grinds my gears is much of the marketing on the Razer page is comparing to the MacBook line. If you constantly have to try and prove your product, its not very good., it should prove itself.

You can only get the no-GPU version in the 1080p, no touch model, and Linus really likes touch on his laptops.

I find it hilarious that the shit Razer dumps on us has worse build quality than a partial plastic/partial aluminum-magnesium built Latitude E4310 from going on 10 years ago. Like good job boys, you played yourselves.

Linus does explain you can't get the version with a touch screen unless you get the 4K screen and MX150 GPU. And I think if a person is interested enough in these laptops they would go shopping for one themselves.

I don't see anything bad about having a large business, and with that logic you could say they have been "selling out" since he used to produce videos from a house he made into an office and had several employees.

As his channel grew of course he has to change the content to appeal more to a mass audience, I do miss the unboxings, and the hardware testing , but the sponsor spots and doing feature videos on things like a TV or soundbar attracts more viewers. Not everyone likes it though the content he makes is high quality, and its obvious with how many views his videos get which is important to every Youtube creator who wants to be successful.

Using a 2017/2018 RBS Gunmetal edition and am quite happy. Highly recommended.

 

Mods:

- dbrand skin, dragon on the bottom for grip

- matte display with overlay protection foil (touch remains usable)

- just upped the SSD in my RBS from the 256GB PM961 to a 2TB 970 EVO plus and went from about 2000+ read/1500 write to over 3k read/write. Runs about 5-8 degrees hotter (low to mid 40s mostly on regular low key use).

There were some quirks:

- the early firmware shut down the machine to sleep mode when the power was connected/disconnected, but the new firmware fixed that.

- the secondary keys are lacking illumination, which is fixed on the 2019 version.

- most surprising feature: Dolby Atmos audio.

 

My background:

I am picky on Laptops and have used e.g., the Panasonic business rugged line before. It is just great if you can pour beverages through your keyboard. Compact and usable forever.  Macbook Pros are not worth it any more IMHO. Waited long enough for a comeback on innovate unibody constructions from Apple. Unfortunately Apple went Sculley 2.0 and gave up on technology innovation. They are lacking a good dose of Steve already. I am old enough to own a NeXT cube, which had a Unix microkernel and full windowed apps from around 1990. It was literally not an issue to open hundreds of windows on that machine and do video processing before even Win 3 arrived. Definitely a different pace of innovation than the "cartridge" Apple of today.

 

On the 2019 models:

- Razer does not tell you up front (it is in the specs though) that the 2019 emtry level RBS now has SATA m.2 instead of the 4 channel NVMe it had in 2018!  Why?

- The hard-edge design is also not as useful for extended use IMHO, just easier to manufacture, than the more rounded design of 2018.

- I even considered the Blade 15 model in 2018, but in the end decided for high portability of the 13" RBS with good battery life.

 

Supporting what Linux said about not switching for the 2019 models: MX150 is not worth it. Razer could have upped the CPU to better graphics instead. Maybe it will become interesting once AMD integrated graphics improves with Ryzen as long as the power remains low overall. For daily driver and frequent handling all the details matter. Happy I got my RBS model when I did, it was a more consistent design IMHO than the 2019 models. Sorry.
