Care to forecast when GTX 1070 will be under 200$?

CuriousBro

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have a GTX 1050 Ti and I'm under the impression that the GTX 1070 is more than twice as good as the 1050 Ti. I want to buy it this year and notice it has dipped into the 250$ range. Does anyone want to forecast when it will drop to the sub 200$ range?

on ebay? there's some under 200 dollars right now. On amazon or newegg? that's probably not gonna happen in at least 3-4 years

Damn....

Just get a 980 Ti. It'll use a bit more power but it'll give very similar performance for under $200.

4-12 months from now. it all depends on when new cards launch.

also on the used market you will find mining cards for around 190$ if im not misstaken (it depends heavily on the market)

Next question. How do I asses used cards and who to buy from?

But how often do people get screwed on used GPU's?

if you buy in-person. then it is unlikely.

online you need to look for reputable sellers.

i dont have any statistics of how often, but it does happen from time to time.

Many times, but you can minimize the risk:

- buying face to face, if the person doesn't have anything to hide, he will do a proper test at his place.

- get a escrow service like ebay, test the card on arrival, send it back when you see something bad.

- Examine the picture, front and back, including exposed serial number / model numbers. Compare it with the stock pictures in the manufacture website.

- Make sure everything working properly, benchmark scores not that different from stock, fans all working with variable speed, minimum dust.

A GPU will last 3-5 years in normal usage, be aware of the one's which has been overclocked that will shorten the lifespan.

Mining GPU are very cheap right now, miners are cashing their asset as soon as possible, selling at bottom dollar, but it is sometimes associated with short lifespan, that may not be true, if you can get the ones in tip top condition, its a great bargain.

I would rather buy it from miners than an overclockers.

when NVIDIA decides that the budget market exists again, but honestly just get a 980TI for about the same performance and €200 price

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

never been screwed myself, i have bought quite a few. The only dead cards i have recived have been bought as defects for a cheap price and were just a gamble to see if i could fix them but i coudnt fix dead silicon.
