My dream rig would include a case, power supply and motherboard that I wouldn't have to replace for at least 12-15 years or more, maybe 25.  It would still accept new parts being released at the time.

 

Also, said new parts wouldn't be just incremental improvements per generation, they'd be much bigger leaps.  For example if I put in a $300 CPU in 2018 that got like 225 single-threaded and 2000 multi-threaded in Cinebench R15, I could upgrade in like 2022 to one that did 500 single-threaded and 6,000 multithreaded for the same $300, then in 2025 to one that does 1,300 single-thread and 15,000 multi-thread, and so on.  (Or whatever the rate of improvements back in the 1980s and 1990s was.)  For RAM, I might put 4x 16GB (64 GB) in it to start with, but eventually around 2030 or so I'd have probably 16x 256 GB (4 TB), both for the same price at their respective purchase times.  It would have enough PCI Express lanes to be able to eventually have several SSDs that could each do a few TB/s transfer speeds. :)

 

I'd probably replace a SeaSonic Prime PSU twice (because it, in another system, died after powering a Celeron G3930T underclocked to 800 MHz & undervolted accordingly, SATA SSD, 1 stick of DDR4-2133 RAM, no GPU, etc - got old & tired even though the environment was only -20°C) or so before I'd want to replace the mobo.  PCI Express, SATA and USB connectors have been interchangeable / compatible since, like, 2004, 2000 and 1996, respectively.  Why can't DIMM slots and CPU sockets have that much forward/backward compatibility?

 

And speaking of CPU ... Let's say I paid $300-400 for that board, basically splurging on it, so I only have like $50 for the CPU.  So in 2018 I pop in one that only does about 180 single-threaded and 800 multi-threaded in Cinebench.  Then maybe in 2019 or 2020 I upgrade to the $300 CPU, then every 5 years or so swap out the CPU again.  Then, maybe around 2042 or so (twice the length of the warranty of a SeaSonic Prime PSU), new parts might no longer be compatible ...  But, maybe in 2048 or so, I'd pick up, for like $100 total, four CPUs that had been released around 2040-2042, and were like $20K each when new, and drop them into the board's sockets.  :)  (I won't try to give their cinebench scores, but suffice it to say each one's single-threaded score would be a bigger jump over a Xeon Platinum 8180M, Epyc 7601, i9-7980XE, TR 1950X, etc, than those CPUs combined are over the original Intel 4004. :P)

Best PC for what?  A good PC most expensive parts do not make

Well this is a thread about ridiculous overbuilding. My actual PC is i7-6700k with HT off, 32GB DDR4, 1070, Seasonic X850, nice boring black Lian Li case, APC BackUPS XS1500.

Guys this maybe a very different type of question i just want to know about your vision for dream your PC think that you have a chance to work with the best technicians and brands and make your vision reality you get the chance to build a custom PC case custom motherboard Ram everything possible accept the core Technologies it can be a sff or maybe a superpower or maybe an all in one then what will your PC be like and what kind of design for theme it will have ??? ( and plz be realistic something that is achievable with todays technology  )

Eh, I am already pretty satisfied with what I have, so I don't really know what else to ask for. There's really only one thing that comes to mind: that it'd be entirely silent, even when running at full load.

I have always wanted a custom loop 4 way SLI setup. I almost went for 3 980tis but SLI is dying

an EEB board with 2 CPUs but here's the secret, I want CPUs with a high IPC rate and low thread count or no hyperthreading at all, and both watercooled with AIOs, a titan v card, 64 gigs of memory so chrome runs smooth and no less than 16 TB of storage so I can keep all of my pirate games important stuff, no LEDs, custom loops or stuff like that, everything inside my current 730T
