Corsair CX750 orignal vs CX750M prices?

ZBforged65

Hey, first time post and new to building PC's. i recently got a Corsair CX750M as early Christmas present and i was going to sell my CX750 original. The Question i have is why is this older version more expensive than the newer semi modular one? is this older CX750 non modular better somehow? they are both bronze rated i believe? should i stick with the original and take back the other?

Bronze rating is no good man.  Go for Gold at least if you don't want any PSU problems for many many years to come.  Try the RX series.

PSU efficiency rating has nothing to do with how long it will last or how well it is made... You can buy some terrible 80+ Gold or 80+ Platinum PSU's that are significantly worse than the Corsair CXM, recommending a PSU for its efficiency only is terrible advice.

The new CXM units (grey label) are better build quality than the original CX units (Tier 5 I believe).

@Ingram88 That PSU upgrade is well worth it, it is better quality than the old CX units.

Also to answer your question the pricing is irrelevant, that old CX750 is probably for sale by a vendor with old stock that does not what to sell the PSU at a loss, the new grey label CXM is the better PSU.

hahahahah im flattered guys thanks for the input. do you think i should just take back this one and sell my current one? i have an older pc upgrading slowly but i-7 4970k, cooler master hyper 212 evo and i put two corsair ml 120mm on it instead of the stock fan, about to upgrade the gpu its a msi gtx970 4g on a gigabyte ga-z297x gaming 3 with 32 gb of ddr3 had to take out the corsair vengence pro 2400 and just now have 1600 8x4 stick because cooler got in the way. wanting to SLI but with a different card i have a nzxt case with two 140ml corsairs one on 140 ml on top and a ml120 on exhuast over kill on fans but i like the white black and red. and does ram speed really make that much of an impact after having 32gb?

I wonder what the M is for ?  Find that out first.  Also you might get away with a 550w PSU,  Unless you plan on putting 2080 RTX on it or SLI or what not.

Correct although I believe you mean the Corsair RMx or TXM? And the CXM?

At any matter, OP is looking at the new CXM unit which at Tier 3 is a decent PSU and a good upgrade from the old CX line.

Dunno why the old one is more expensive but the newer one might support more power States for modern CPUs. I'd check that and swap to the new one.  So it's ready when you upgrade your cpu

Corsair uses M for Modular.

@Ingram88 I would definitely keep the new CX750M, it is better than your old CX unit and you never know when a PSU will fail. So, it would be best to avoid that whole situation altogether. If you PSU fails it can kill other components in your system like your motherboard or GPU etc. Replacing you PSU is a cheaper and safer alternative to that happening.

hahahahah im flattered guys thanks for the input. do you think i should just take back this one and sell my current one? i have an older pc upgrading slowly but i-7 4970k, cooler master hyper 212 evo and i put two corsair ml 120mm on it instead of the stock fan, about to upgrade the gpu its a msi gtx970 4g on a gigabyte ga-z297x gaming 3 with 32 gb of ddr3 had to take out the corsair vengence pro 2400 and just now have 1600 8x4 stick because cooler got in the way. wanting to SLI but with a different card i have a nzxt case with two 140ml corsairs one on 140 ml on top and a ml120 on exhuast over kill on fans but i like the white black and red. and does ram speed really make that much of an impact after having 32gb?

Well RAM speeds really don't matter if its 2100Mhz or 3200Mhz or 4000Mhz . You will NOT see a performance boost.  Okay maybe 1fps more lol.  Well with 32GB kit you should just make sure the speed and latencies are set correctly in BIOS.  Look CPU takes a certain ammount of data from RAM and processes it.  It doesnt mattter if its coming at 2100Mhz or 4000Mhz.  Okay in benchmarks you will see a difference but not in the real world.

And no problem that's what the forums are for!

My recommendation is that unless you can find a super cheap used 970 then I would not bother, might be worth it to sell your 970 and look for a used 1070. But if you choose to go with 970's in SLI 750W will be enough.

Bronze rating is no good man.  Go for Gold at least if you don't want any PSU problems for many many years to come.  Try the RX series.

i recently got a Corsair CX750M as early Christmas present and i was going to sell my CX750 original. The Question i have is why is this older version more expensive than the newer semi modular one?

Price can vary due to a number of reasons, and is not a good indicator of quality.

The older unit might be more expensive as availability & supply decreases. The supplier/manufacturer may not have the same aggressive rebates or sales on the older unit that they have on the newer ones. Pricing errors. And so on...

A 4790k and GTX 970 will only require a decent quality 450W PSU, even with overclocking.

As for SLI, you need two cards of the same model for SLI. So you can't SLI a GTX 970 and a GTX 1080 for example, they both need to be GTX 970s. SLI support in games isn't great, and the performance often doesn't scale well. Instead of buying a second GTX970, you'd likely get better performance from selling your current GTX 970 and buying a single second hand GTX 1080 or similar.

I enjoy his grumpiness. It's entertaining. I like to imagine that there's a well worn spot on his desk from where his head hits it after reading some of the comments on this forum.

hey guys, i appreciate all the help. i ended up finding a rm750x and trying to figure out exactly how to hook it up also had to take out the corsair pro vengeance 2400 for 32gb of pny 1600 due to clearance from the hyper 212 evo cooler master. was this a mistake? and also i am having trouble trying to figure out how to set my fans up with only so few ports. i have 2 ml 140 in front that i have plugged into sys 2 and 3 ports but i also have a 140ml on top and 120 ml for exhaust. and on the cooler master i have 2 red 120mm corsairs because i like the look but those are only 3 pin. i wanted a nice wiring job so i don't have cables everywhere. any suggestions? i can post pics if it would help? thank you so much for the support and help guys. apologies if i sound dumb but first time to get into it and i had no idea how much knowledge went into truly knowing how to set up a build. lol thank you again guys
