LTT Official Folding Month 2018!!!

Go to solution Solved by palespartan,

I figured I would take advantage of the fact this post hasn't been locked yet to spread the word about this years folding month.

Folding month 2019!!

See the thread for detail and don't forget to spread the word!!!

@leadeater you can now lock this one.

-Thanks

Tomerrs seems to have cooled down a bit to a steady 8.5 million PPD after producing almost 10 million PPD on the 5th

Either @King Poet has had some sunny cool weather to help him with his a/c and solar issues or he’s just decided to give a nice early present to the Electricity provider down under and is now producing around 7.2 Million PPD

@_Rlocke has bubbled up in the production and looks like will finish the day above 7 million PPD

Linus must have noticed some cards missing and LMG_Jakkuh has dropped to around 3.5 million PPD from the 6.5 he was at.

I’m producing just a bit over 3 million PPD. That chrome book running NaCl must have done the trick!

@Dissitesuxba11s is hot on my tail at just under 3 million PPD

@Ben Quigley is purring along at around 2.5 million PPD

@porina just keeps swimming along at 2 million PPD

@palespartan is just under 2 million PPD and is in hot competition with @DUW1G1T @Cereal5 @Yabdat and maybe a few others bubbling up through the ranks.

Now that registrations closed with the final list of participants we’ve got the statistics gathering automated and once @Ben Quigley puts the final touches on the spreadsheet we’ll be able to get the updates out very quickly.

Keep on Folding!

Good news. So that’s about 12 to 15% PPD increase. There can be a wide variation on yield depending on the work unit and somewhat within the WUs depending on the paths taken.

11718 WUs are particularly brutal. I’ve seen as much as a 20% decrease in yield when they come up.

The majority of what I've gotten is 11730, but some WUs have decreased my overall PPD by somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-400k (2.1ish mil to 1.7ish)

There’s some pretty good tutorials on getting Folding working on Linux but there’s some gotchas you can waste a lot of time on.

Unless you have some experience twiddling under the hood in Linux any potential benefits from PPD increase would likely be offset by the points lost due to the downtime getting it working.

Yeah true. And I meant actually installing linux. They make you burn it onto a CD and check for corruption... It would have been fun to mess around in linux but I just got windows 10 for the ease of it. oh well, maybe next time.

Stanford has a standardized test rig they use to assign the base points to a new work unit on. It’s a core i5 series 750 running at 2.67GHz i5 running Linux so it is likely falling a little behind the times compared to current hardware as one would expect from a nine year old processor.

Note the same CPU is used to benchmark the GPU targeted jobs so it must take a REALLY long time.

You can actually do a network install or just mount the iso file from a flash drive in UEFI like with windows. Checking the hash on the downloaded iso is a good idea as is verifying the image burnt to CD or DVD but if your downloading from a reputable mirror can be skipped if your comfortable with the risk.

I’d love to see a packaged Linux build for folding. They have them for mining so it likely wouldn’t be too difficult for someone who knew what they were doing to modify one of those.

Porina is looking comfortable in 8th place with 19.4milion. Palespartan is holding onto 9th with 16.9million points, he is followed by Cereal5 who has managed to rack up 14.5mililon points.

Invaderzim and Yabdat both have 11.7million and are fighting it out for their chance to challenge the top 10, TVwazhere is holding onto 13th with just shy of 10million, Powelljl is around 300k behind him and closing in, Willhemmings is in 15th with around 9million points, RollinLower has 8.7million. Stijnman and Cagedanimalz both are around the 8.5million point mark and are fighting it out for 17th. DW225 is in 19th withdrthinder right behind with only 100k seperation.

It has to be said the mighty @Tomerrs looks undefeatable by this point,  The king looks to be pulling ahead of Jakkuh, @_Rlocke has really put those new cards to work and finds himself challenging Jakkuh for the podium. @Ben Quigley is managing to hold onto his top10 spot for the time being. @palespartan looks capable of pushing up a place or two if everything keeps the way it is now.

Guys, With the points being collated automatically we may see some strange numbers for the first day or so while we work through it, please bare withis, if you think your TOTAL points are wrong please get in contact, otherwise enjoy the post and keep trucking along.

The overall team has seen yet another boost up to 145million points, lets keep trying to get the most out of our rigs we at this rate we are looking at a 1,000,000,000 point week(as tracked by EOC).

Please remember we have minimum participation requirements, these are 100k points, 15WUs, and 15 days of having activity over the course of the whole month.

Thanks for everyone who is involved in this event, it really should make you all proud. We collectively produced 96,573,990 this update, well done people.

Happy folding,

Dam it, I fell down from 110 place to 111. I guess that is what I get from not folding in the night.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don't just give up.”

Dang, I fell out of the top 100.

Part of me wants to use my old Cooler Master Hyper 212 as my 'folding' cooler because it's useless at the moment and it would save my Arctic Freezer 33 eSports One from getting dust-clogged because of constant folding runs.

Hello, hope everyone is doing well.

Got a question. I have a EVGA 980ti FTW card. When it is pushed hard it goes to 1379gpu and 3752mem. When i fold it drops to 1379 and 3304*P2 state i guess*but even if i Kboost it to lock it to the higher mem clocks they still drop as soon as folding starts. Any ideas? Thank you for your time

Sounds like its power limited in some way to me... You could use Nvidia Inspector to lock it to P0 state (if your card allows it) and then see if you get the same drops.

Yeah that’s what I thought too. But it shows just at 73% and the EVGA XOC has the slider to 120% but I’ll try the inspector to see what it says. Thank you

not what I mean, P states are just different states of power limitation, they are used for a variety of reasons, in modern card it lets them shut down stages of the VRM. So it sounds like you are dropping a power state.

If you don’t have water cooling you might be constrained by your case airflow.

I had always planned to put the 1080's on water but didn't have the money to get into it. It'd be my first water cooling build too ?

the 2 1080's and the vega are all packed into my 900D, I have the Vega vertically mounted in front of the 1080's with a few inches of space, but it's better than having them all stacked on top of each other.

Saw this talked about on the WAN show Friday, and I figured I'd join in since F@H is what originally brought me to the forum years ago. Most of my hardware is dated now, but it should still be worth something.

Doing whatever i can to help with my rig.

I wish santa claus gifts me a decent computer this Christmas.

Thanks for your contribution.  We are all stronger together and all contribute to the best of our abilities.

Remember there is some decent hardware that will be given away to random participants. Santa Linus might visit you ... It’s not a complete system but it’s the most expensive single component in smaller builds.

Let me check my smaller units ... may be we’ve exhausted the pool of A4 and other smaller WUs
