"Vintage" Computer Thread

Tr3vor

Well its been a while since I've seen a "vintage" or old PC thread, so Since I got an old computer of mine working, I decided to make a new one.
So post your old shit :D (computers new enough to run Windows XP and later are not allowed, since those are not "old" :P )

BEHOLD: the Franken-386

sLzpLKkl.jpg

I picked this up at a thrift store for $5 a few weeks back, but it had no power cable. So what did I do? take an old shitty thermaltake semi-modular PSU and solder the 5v and ground wires from one of the cables onto the battery terminals of this machine and we have a working 386SX computer :D When I'm done using it, I can just unplug its cable from the PSU and stuff it in the battery area.

This little laptop packs a 386SX 20mhz with 2mb of RAM, a 40mb IDE HDD, a 256k VGA adapter and a modem. Of course it has a 640x480 monochrome display but you can hook it up to a monitor and it has excellent CGA emulation. It also runs MS-DOS 3.3

Anyone got some cool old stuff?

Old shit no one cares about but me.

I have a Sharp PC-43-something-something with a whopping 20MB of storage, 720k floppy, a massive (maxed out) 640k memory bank, and a blazing fast 7MHz processor. It's supposed to run a customized version of DOS 3.3, but I can't find the disk. Forgot the screen resolution. Still works.

EDIT: Aaaaaaand I don't have a camera at my dad's, so I hope you didn't want pics. :P

This is a awesome thread idea, can't wait to see some old rigs xD

It's been done a few times but they have pretty much died off really quickly.

I bet you have an 8086 CPU in that. Probably runs either MCGA or VGA. Don't know of any EGA laptops, but they probably exist.

Yup. Just Googled what I thought it was, and it's a Sharp PC-4521, with an 8086 processor in it.

Why was this moved? This isn't really on OS thing. The DOS/Win9X thing was to set guidelines as to what I was looking for in hardware, not so much about the OS itself.

When I say old, half the time people jump onto the P4s and Athlons, which isn't that old.

Edit: Moved back, yay :D

CPC-464  you load programs from tape, 64k of ram , 8-bit,green and black screen

That's pretty cool. There isn't much of anything from Amstrad or Sinclair here in America. Looks like neat hardware though.

Also, here is my 486 in its current shape.

I got this system about a year back and its on its 3rd CPU now. The first, a 33mhz 486sx, was burnt out by me, sticking the cpu into the socket the wrong way. Why they didn't key things back then? idk. So I bought it a 33mhz 486DX and used that for a year.

It now rocks a 486DX2 66mhz CPU, so I can play some stuff on higher settings and all that.

15OJTDUl.jpg FoBI6SPl.jpg

486DX2 66mhz

20mb 30-pin SIMM RAM. (I don't know the access time for this, but I'm guessing 70ns)

No external cache

A generic Multi I/O card for serial, printer port, IDE, FDD, etc

Sound Blaster 16 Vibra (could be better, but this case can't accomidate full height expansion cards)

Cirrus Logic 512KB SVGA card on a VESA bus

generic 200w PSU

CD-ROM (wow)

240mb Conner IDE hard drive (used to have a 1.2gb drive in there, but with the limitations of 486 BIOSes, I could only use 502mb of it, so I bought something more authentic)

Behold the IBM Model M

On the desk there is an old "Expo" keyboard that uses old ALPS switches I think. It might be blasphemy, but I think I like those more than the Model M...

Also that's my awesome 800x600 monitor.

I got some more old computer stuff, but I'll leave it at that tonight.

Old shit no one cares about but me.

Sharp PC-(Some numbers. I forget and don't wanna go look.)

Got it at a tag sale for 5 bucks. Came with original case which included a 5 inch floppy drive. The PC itself has 2 smaller floppy drives (No HDD) and a totally dead battery. I forget how much RAM it has but I do know that it's maxed out. (640k maybe?) Unlike the one in the first post it's bigger and doesn't have a LCD. Take a look:

I've got my original iMac G4. I use it for my Spotify computer mostly, but this thing is a genuine piece of art. The monitor is so futuristic-looking that this still holds up awesomely today.

Enjoy the eye candy!

EDIT: Crappy picture quality  . Damn you, 4S!

Victor_9000_HDversion_1.jpg

I have 2 of these Sirus/Victor 9000 PCs, they don't have a HDD.  And I'm pretty sure the floppy discs with the OS and programs must be unreadable by now.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

I'll have to get a picture of the old Mac laptop and AT PC I have sitting on a shelf at work. They're a way to remind me that the new generation of computers (no matter how frustrating) are much easier to work with than the old, hah.

WHAAAAAAAAAAT?! Did you read that Wikipedia article? LOOOOOOL

The Toshiba T1000 was a laptop computer manufactured by the Toshiba Corporation in 1987 along with the help of Viscount Janam Nagra who was employed due to her exceptionally low iq. The idea was that if a person of such low intelligence could use this Toshiba computer anyone could.
