"Vintage" Computer Thread

Tr3vor

It's been done a few times but they have pretty much died off really quickly.

I bet you have an 8086 CPU in that. Probably runs either MCGA or VGA. Don't know of any EGA laptops, but they probably exist.

VGA? i have that, does that also count as disqualification for being too new of a compupter? xD (my computer has an i7-4790k and gtx 960 and i am running VGA should i be ashamed? xD

AFAIK, they're talking about the resolution nickname. I think it's like 640x480 or something like that.

i don't get it am i in trouble?

No you're fine. While necroing is a rule, you could argue it doesn't (shouldn't) apply in this situation and that the rules aren't comprehensive enough to deal with all situations.

  • This thread isn't directed at anyone in particular.
  • It isn't a topic that has changing conclusions (i.e. if it is a debate topic etc).
  • This topic doesn't get old (old as in "out of date"). Sure how can vintage get old since by definition it already is old.
  • There are no questions being asked which is one of the reasons necroing is bad (expecting replies to months old questions).
  • It's just posting pics on a particular topic (similar to build logs which has an exemption from this exact rule).
  • Someone would probably have said "repost" if you had created a brand new thread on the same topic.

People love to bring up the CoC at the first sign of an infringement. Don't be afraid to challenge the rules every once in a while. As long as you have valid reasons and be a respectful while doing so, you will be fine.

4.3 Thread Necroing

Thread necroing consists of reviving a previously resolved, settled, or "dead" thread after a prolonged period of time by the OP with the intention of bumping the thread to the top of the board. Threads with an activity gap of 1 month or greater that are brought back to the front page is considered "thread necroing". A shorter duration may be considered when dealing with situations like previously resolved threads being reposted or simply for the purpose of bumping it to the front page. Build logs are exempt from this rule.

Rig: i7 2600K @ 4.2GHz, Larkooler Watercooling System, MSI Z68a-gd80-G3, 8GB G.Skill Sniper 1600MHz CL9, Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 3x 2GB OC, Samsung 840 250GB, 1TB WD Caviar Blue, Auzentech X-FI Forte 7.1, XFX PRO650W, Silverstone RV02 Monitors: Asus PB278Q, LG W2243S-PF (Gaming / overclocked to 74Hz) Peripherals: Logitech G9x Laser, QPad MK-50, AudioTechnica ATH AD700

Here is my current project. Right now I just need mounting hardware for my Zalman CNPS9900 MAX and two more long black SATA cables with a right angle connector on one end. Oh, and a USB 3.0 to 2.0 front panel header adapter thing. :/

nope, and I wouldn't want one. I hardly use my P3 as it is. I want a 286, but that shit is nonexistent here.

Why go with a 286 when 386 are more common and normally perform better (if you get a 386 DX-40 that is, 1 particular 25MHz 286 was as fast as the DX-40)? Also, dual Pentium III rigs (or for that matter anything with a Pentium III 500MHz+) are perfect for trolling Steam if your using OpenSuse.
