  1. 1. Floor or desk?

    • Floor (including PCs on top of stuff at floor level.)
    • Desk

under the desk, under my legs, sideways so i can poke at everything with my toes and shit lol

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

"Here is some advice that might have gotten lost somewhere along the way in your life.

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.

Americans say living room, unless we specifically have a house that has a second living room style room that we turn into a lounge.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

If my PC is good and behaves, I keep it inside.  But if it behaves badly, I put it out side until it learns its lesson.  I like my PC's housebroken and obedient.

On-top-of-desk master race.

No room underneath. I have peddles from a racing wheel kit stashed under there as it is.

On the floor, under my desk.

Shitty cheap case, better to keep it out of sight.

Server is on the floor, next to my desk.

Not to worry, both have air filters and no pets to knock them over.

  • 1 month later...

Essentially, to be blunt, My old desk had 15 inches of leg room, which CRUSHED MY FUCKING NUTS.
This led to me sitting at an awkward angle: legs off to one side and torso twisted to face the screen.
This led to me going to a chiropractor for the re-alignment of my lower spine.

I got a new desk. This one to be exact, cuz it seemed to have lots of leg room: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tribesigns-Modern-Simple-Computer-Workstation/dp/B015R3SU38
The problem is: my old desk, while inadequate for my nuts, had an area to the left for my PC tower. This one does not. I know it's a bad idea to put a PC on carpet, however it would ruin the aesthetics of my setup if i just had a random plank of wood under my PC, and due to the fact that my case is a corsair C70, it is both too big to place on top of the desk and to noisy when 2 inches from my face. Any ideas?

i stopped putting PC on the floor as i have a tendency to kick things. I look for desks where I can put the PC behind the monitor. In the 90s we use to put the PC under the CRT, that was a pretty good setup I dont know why its no longer in fashion. Maybe for my next upgrade ill get a m-ITX and VESA mount it

You're fine putting the pc on the carpet if there is not airflow coming from the bottom of the case that would be obstructed. I.e. mount your psu upside down to intake air from inside your case and putting it on carpet is fine.
