Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Well not really. If its the suburban it'll probably have leather seats. The AC was broken until a few months ago in my s10, so that comes down to power windows yeah. And the key fob didn't work on my s10 either for a while. The s10 also handles pretty damn good for what it is as well, and I'm hoping the poly sway bar and end links help it out a bit more too. The rear sway bar that I added took it a long way.

*for a kit car

if compared to any real car of the similar cost, they're crap.  and the interior is a no contest...  even the cheapest car you can buy in the last 20 years has a higher quality looking interior...

actually it really all depends on the builder and their budget some go all out and put in amazing interiors leather real carbon fiber giant touch screens ect.

Eh. Some of the Silverados were nice. The Avalanche wasn't very good. The Tahoes seemed to all have a bit of hesitation when you get on it, almost as if asking "are you sure, are you sure? OK let's go!" the powerstroke was a pile of crap that they needed to work over so it wouldn't blow up, the pre-tacoma was lacking for power, and the f150 feelsabout the same as my s10 just with spongy brakes. That leaves the Silverados which are generally more expensive than others because the interiors are generally better. Which leads into the list of three vehicles that I was considering buying in the next 5 years, the 12 valve Cummins, the suburban, and the 7.3 powerstroke. If I'm buying another Chevy, it'll be a Suburban, if I get another truck it's gonna be a Cummins or a powerstroke.

honestly, if i wanted to get an suv like ever, it would be a 2003-2006 Suburban or Tahoe Z71.

Just cause it has some nice material stretched over some surfaces doesn't make it a quality interior... I can spot that as a kit car interior from a mile away... The other thing is if you get one built this "nice" you can prolly buy a used F430 for how much this would cost...

Why'd do you think I included it? It's a mini truck not an F1 car. Still takes corners like no tomorrow (for a truck) I intend to have it until I get another truck. Out of everything else that I put on that list, the s10 is the best handling vehicle on there being as objective as I can. I'll be doing front sway bar/end link bushings and after that body mounts in poly. Just casually trying to make it something it's not for the sake of doing it.

Sorry, it just hits a nerve with me when "truck" and "good handling" is used in the same sentence... Unless the truck has at least 10k dumped into its suspension setup

yes but not all of us like an f430 :P i personally hate most ferraris. also there is the actual fun component of building a car and the nice community  (nice not like the Ferrari community) and besides an f430 interior isn't much better (sorry i have a bit of a bitter personality when it comes to talking about normal ferraris)

so wouldn't you rather have one of those?

You do realize that not everybody wants a pig fat truck, right?

so all you care about are the mechanicals? interior quality doesn't matter as long as it has power windows and AC?

I guess if thats the case, sounds like a V8 swapped S10 is for you...

You also do realize that the GMT platforms of equal years had nearly the same interior quality, right?

I really don't know what you're going at. At first you're suggesting mini trucks are a bad platform and he should go for a full size, then you drop this:

Sorry, it just hits a nerve with me when "truck" and "good handling" is used in the same sentence... Unless the truck has at least 10k dumped into its suspension setup

Do you know where you're going with your advice? Because I don't.

ok a lambo then...  but if you want the experience of building a car, then thats completely different...  I was looking at it from the perspective of the experince you get for your money.  and you kept saying good builders can make nice ones, so I assumed you were talking about having someone else build it for you.

as far as interior being "not much better"... well I'd say you'd see if you sat in both, but there's an order of magnitude of difference just looking at the pics... so if you don't see it here you prolly won't see it in person.

What is it exaclty you have against Ferrari's?  I mean sure their community is full of pretentious pricks who keep their cars in their garage and hire a detailer to come out and wash the dust off of it every week.. but I buy cars for how they drive, not how friendly the forum for that car is...

if you want a small truck, in my book the only way to go is Tacoma (yes, opinion, sorry for pushing it on anyone else)

yeah, but mid to late 2000's Fords were available with much nicer interiors, and Dodge to a degree.  But yeah, GMT truck interiors suck, I think the current ones might have improved, but i'm not sure... don't follow trucks too much.

not really advice, more a statement

Really? Fords with better interiors? They too are terrible of that era. Dodge had the best truck interiors of the era, however that was very short lived. RCR covered it a bit in the 96 F150 review.

it depends on the trim, and I did say mid to late 2000's... where are you getting '96 from and whats RCR?

RCR is Regular Car Reviews, a youtube channel. as far as mini trucks, I agree with you. a V6 Tacoma is awesome, and holds its value like crazy. Plus, you get Toyota Reliability, and all dat aftermarket.

Checkpoint on today's drive...

Finished the 80+km round trip fairly quickly...

Loaded up with 18L of 93 Octane gas before departing and used up approx 8L upon my arrival here...

I had to drive it harder than usual since I was loaded with approx 450kg in people and cargo...

d95db9fa3d.jpg

This is the bottom of the slope that I was talking about earlier...

It gets steeper near the top... (the camera is level with the horizon...)

I think I also set my best time for the trip from the highlands to home...

I looked at pics of this Toyota Tacoma youre talking about. It doesnt look all that small to me. Is it really considered a small truck?

Oh, and have nice christmas, for those who care.

I guess it was more of an Europe centred thing then.

How'd removing the air filter help? Did y'all go up backasswards?

I went up the hill empty this time so there was no need for extra power. but it's already pushing it. for now my task is to rest up for the celebration later.

Picked up a 1997 Subaru Outback the other night for $800. The guy selling it was going to trade it for a set of wheels and tires. 5spd manual, 273k miles (although you can't tell based on the body or interior), new engine with new internals, completely clean body with no rust, mint interior. Will make a perfect winter fun car to save miles on my FiST. Only minor things wrong such as 3rd gear syncro, mass airflow sensor needs replacing, steering rack needs replacing, shifter needs to be rebuilt, etc.
