Nice!!

That's what I'm running, 215x21. I have found it to be really stable at my voltages (~1.4V vcore, 1.325 QPI). I've gotten it to do 22x at some number of volts but....eh, way past diminishing returns there. I also have LLC2 turned on.

hmmmm..... I'll try that if I can get it to behave, I highly doubt the mobo itself is damaged. If I can't get it to work, I can pop my other 6 core into an MSI workstation board I have and use that for the time being...

You can always send me your system for "testing"

Gotta push the W3670 (The 4.93GHz number is some CB bugg I guess) over 1000 on a stable clock aswell. My 8700K does what it's expected to I guess.

6x2GB Corsair XMS3 1333. Runs at 1440MHz 9-9-9-24 on 1.66V

The board is an X58A-UD3R rev 2

I bought one of those small Noctua PWM-controllers and hooked up three Fractal Venturi fans in the front, and mounted the MasterLiquid Pro 240 to them. Temps are in check :)

Noooooo. one of my two beloved X58 systems just died today. Psu gave up and send a overcurrent throw the motherboard (Asus Rampage 2 extreme ROG) and fried it together with the I7 920 CPU i had in it and i where else planning on getting a Xeon 6 core CPU for it and i had just got my hands on a second Samsung 950 PRO M.2 SSD to replace the aging SSD in it, but i guess that 950 PRO will be put in my main X58 system in sted then. So i am only on one system left with a i7 980X oc to 4.37 ghz.

In the memory´s of it. A few screenshot of it. Its really sad cause as you all know X58 is an awesome platform and know i have to look after another second gaming rig for when friends comes over or if the main rig has problems.

Yeah it is indeed unfortunate. And here i where just planning on to try owning bofh a 6 core I7 and Xeon X58 cpu, but that plan is dead now. Stupid PSU Grrrrr.

At least i still have my beloved I7 980X powered system. But owning two X58 systems where just a bit more awesome than only one.

It where a Logisys PSU and about 4 years old. After google it, it turns out its a cheap crap PSU from a OEM build with the X58 system i got from a friend.

Luckely the PSU in my main X58 custom system with I7 980X is one of proper quality (thermaltake toughpower).

Another long post incoming because I can't help myself from writing these drawn out, overly detailed posts.

So today I'm going to be re-testing my semi-broken X58 motherboard combo with different RAM, a different PSU, and a different GPU. Fingers crossed that it works :)

As some of you may or may not know, I've also been planning to upgrade my sister's prebuilt computer with the motherboard (assuming it works), however, there are a few issues and other components I'll need to upgrade first before even attempting an upgrade. That's why I'm asking here, since I want my components to fit the characteristics of an X58 system.

Firstly, the jackasses at CyberPowerPC outfitted my sister's system with a 430w non-80+ unbranded PSU, which is so dismal it doesn't even have an EPS 8-pin, and I therefore won't let it come anywhere near my X58 board. I'll be reusing the graphics card from the build, the rx 460, and otherwise won't have very high power components. So what power supply would you folks recommend for an x58 setup with little overclocking? My budget is no more than about $70.  I was thinking something like the EVGA 600BQ, but if there are any others you'd recommend I'd love to hear.

Secondly, I'd also like to upgrade the computer to an SSD setup or otherwise increase the speed from a 1tb mechanical hard drive, and I'd like to do so without using 2.5" SSDs (I think it is possible for my budget of around $65). Here are the options I found over the internet that I've included in my parts spreadsheet:

image.png.200b7c592d190af9bb44aefcdb63cae7.png

Of course, since this is X58, the mSata and M.2 cards need PCIe adapter cards, but I've found that those can be had for under $15. The one I'm leaning towards is the generic Zheino 240gb mSata, since it is 240gb and MLC for only $54. What do you guys think? Will I run into any compatibility issues if I pick up a modern M.2 sata3 drive for my board like you might with NVMe?

Finally, I'm reminded by the loud and annoying stock cooler whenever I look at the board, so I'd like to throw on something decent and relatively silent for about $35. I'll be doing very minimal overclocking so it doesn't need to be crazy, just good value (and if possible, good looks). I keep getting recommended the 212 EVO, but as an owner of a 212 evo who regretted purchasing it, I feel like I can do a lot better. I found the Scythe Fuma a few months back and instantly fell in love with it, the only problem is that it's kind of out of my budget and it's not like it's worth paying that much more if I'm not taking full advantage of its cooling prowess. So my question to all of you is - is there a "scythe fuma" for $30? (For those of you who don't know what the Scythe Fuma is, it's a 6 copper heatpipe and dual-fan cooler for $50, with a slew of other features: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9ZH6CU1449&cm_re=scythe_fuma-_-9SIA9ZH6CU1449-_-Product. I'm looking for something with a value as good as the Fuma for $30.)

That should be it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or recommendations!

I run an X3670 @ 4.2GHz and a stock 1060 6GB with an EVGA 550B3. I checked with a cheapo watt meter during Assassins Creed Origins, and it kept under 400W. Not very scientific, I admit. Time will tell I guess :)

Unless you are going 4-way SLI you should be good. The x series xeons use a lot of power when overclocked but you should be okay with 550w on a good psu. Until this morning I have been running two of the x5690 in my system and I have had them overclocked all on a 750W psu.

The reason I am no longer using that psu is because it does fall short when overclocking two xeons along with a water pump and some other things. Regardless, the cx550m should be plenty for a single socket system

Yeah Bronze isn't preferable but if you can find one on sale it would still be good, form what I hear they are quality power supplies despite being bronze rated. If you are interested, after I test my new psu I would be up for selling the 750W gold rated one that I have.
