iPhone X Geekbench BLOWS any Android phone away

Geekbench runs way better on iOS most likely due to Apple optimizations.

 

There is no doubt the new A11 is better than any other ARM SoC out there, but it's not over twice as fast. You can use it to compare Android vs Android but iOS vs Android isn't a good comparison to use.

It could well be twice as fast , they are dedicating approximately the same die area to 2 cores as other manufacturers dedicate to 4 cores. Yes there is the law of diminishing returns, however we also can expect hardware acceleration and other tweaks which would balance this out.

There's a lot more to it than just size of cores though, including clock speeds, cache structure, amount of cache, etc.

That is true, however it can be quite close.

ARM advertises two of its A73 cores as able to replace 4 A53 cores as found in non flagship phones.

 

The cortex A53 scores around 800 points in geekbench single threaded while an A72/A73 will score around 1500 at the same clock speed. This is an increase of around 1.9x with 2x the die space

There is more at play than just that though, such as cache which I mentioned  

 

Also worth noting is comparing an A11 to an 835 is an Apples to Oranges comparison (pun intended). Apple tends to make very wide CPUs, so with stuff that can extract a lot of parallelism A11 will definitely do very well. However, with stuff that can't it's honestly possible that an A11 wouldn't be too far ahead.

Am i the only one who doesnt really care about how powerful a phone is? Seriously all i want is my phone to open google and youtube quickly and beyond that i dont care

How powerful an SoC is can still impact stuff like webpage load time when dealing with stuff with inefficient coding

Not the only one. I'm still on an iPhone 4s and I would prefer more RAM instead. It's just interesting to see how such different approaches have formed between the two operating systems, with android able to saturate 8 cores in many cases while iOS/Apple aim for single threaded but wide CPUs.

Those are extremely niche scenarios though, most modern phones deal with webpages extremely well.

I think you mean Oreos ?

It would be interesting to see how the A11 does in homemade benchmarks which reflect things such as actual website loading independent of the connection.

XDA is an example which I visit frequently. I know nothing about coding websites but the time it takes to load and its scrolling performance is abysmal. It really helps to have a more powerful device then.

linus loves apples im sure he'll have a liking for this new phone. but like the others say geekbench is not the be all end all benchmark for phones.

XDA is pretty slow in general, and phone browsers tend to only load the visible parts of a page to save bandwidth.

I don't see why you need so much processing power on a phone anyways. And I'm not saying that for Apple-bashing like a console peasant. If my OP3T's software didnt suck as hard sometimes It'd have more than enough power.

Their SoC's have always been top notch, and whoever says otherwise is dead wrong. However this is not a hate thing, Geekbench has been proved to be flawed and untrustworthy on multiple occasions, and that's a fact. I wouldn't be surprised if it was at top, but we need to wait for proper and trustworthy numbers.

Huh? Geekbench is just a bad benchmark, I'm not doubting that Apple's A11 is faster but Antutu is a much better benchmark than Geekbench.
