So as far as I can tell, there's no reason to not get the SP4 at this point for me. The lack of a USB C port really makes this device much more limited than it could be. They're selling a dongle that adds a usb type c, for "people who like dongles" however, so maybe there's some hope? In their video a couple of months ago Linus advised us to wait for this model to come out before purchasing. Does the announcement of the next generation push people one way or the other on which device to buy?

My dad has a Surface Pro 3, and it has the exact same IO, so other than no fan and better batteries what is the upgrade?

I don't know about you guys. but I don't personally know many people that would care if it had thunderbold or usb-c on it. In Australia, we use USB's to transfer work or data because its practical. And if it doesn't fit on a usb stick, We chuck it onto a hard drive which majority (like 95%) by default in Australia, oh suprise suprise goes to usb 2 or 3. If we wanna watch our laptop screen on a bigger display we use hdmi because it works and its bloody cheap as chips. I challenge someone to tell me where I can go out and buy a thunderbolt "usb stick" the size of my pinky finger, with 32GB of memory (which should be absolutely plenty for a couple of movies and powerpoints for work) for $15AUD (about $10USD). Thunderbolt is ahead of its time. We have mouses, keyboards, microphones, other computer accessories that ALL USE USB 2 or 3. Thunderbolt is NOT practicle in a normal schooling or working environment. I don't get why you want to have them there. People just want to plug in a usb and watch a movie, not plug in a dongle, then the usb stick. That's another step that's super unnecessary if ya all kinda get me drift. Put thunderbolt onto laptops once we start getting thunderbolt usb sticks, thunderbolt mouse's, thunderbolt accessories. Things that DONT NEED A BLOODY DONGLE *coughapplecough*
