Automated laser armed underwater drones to protect salmon farming in Norway

In Norway, salmon farming is a multi billion dollar industry. The salmon are cultivated in closed off areas out in the sea. However, among other threats to the fish, there is a little animal creating havoc: The sea louse. Yeah, you read that right: Salmon can get lice. And just like on humans, they feed on the fish.

To combat this, a Norwegian company called Beck Engineering, a company with expertise in ocean farming, has developed an underwater drone to combat this issue.

Yes, a freaking underwater laser drone shoots and kills the lice, as the fish swim past, not noticing anything. No manual check of the fish, no stress or harm to the fish. A fully automated laser armed killer drone. The US army just collectively bust a nut!

What I think:

This is some next gen stuff right there. A freaking underwater drone armed with a laser, that shoots moving targets on living creatures. It's pretty damn awesome. Surely it will improve the health of the fish, and in the end result in higher quality food as well.

So propaganda to sell a book containing more propaganda? Eels are not used for fish food. Do you have any idea how expensive eels are? You can't even harvest them in Scandinavia anymore.

sorry, but in norway they use synthetic pellets. Similar to what you feed your aquarium fish. But obviously more scientifically made. Eels arent possible to fish for in northern europe, it IS however a viable way in Canada and the US, as eel populations there are really high.

It is mostly farm salmon, Baltic sea is screwed too. Only way to make quick buck by consolidating fish in mass quantities is feeding and more feeding.

well, in Norway, tests have shown that wild Salmon has higher levels of heavy metals then farmed ones. As for other toxins, i dunno
