At some point some company needed to drop type-A usb to force everyone to start using Type-C. No matter what there was going to be a shitty transitional period. I'd rather get it over with and be on type-c.

hardly, what the hell are people connecting to their laptops?

 

I rarely connect a single peripheral, most things are wireless, printer, internet, transferring from my phone and camera, wireless logitech mouse etc

if I connect something I will just use USB C

You can get back the function keys if you hold down fn. It's useless for most people and if since it's Mac they can easily make substitutes for it unlike windows.

 

The Touch bar is integrated with Xcode, so you can easily access the most used shortcuts on it. The DJ, photoshop, FCPX demo were on point and wonderfully demoed what the touch bar is capable of. 

 

The only thing that was putting me off for a new MBP were actually the ports (Now I understand why they did it, but it will be an inconvenience for at least a year from now, which is when I expect Type-C to fully release onto everything especially with Apple's move) but I might actually consider it

Agreed, im starting to swtich to USB C stuff anyway so this only helps

 

Lack of SD card really does suck for photographers, but i often transfer photos over wifi from my camera these days or just shove a cable in my bag or get a really fast USB C card reader I guess, not the end of the world especially as many pro cameras use XQD, CF and other such cards

Let's be honest apple perceived use case is 1-2 thunderbolt screens, power cord, and a thunderbolt HDD/SSD drive. and the pro can do that.

absolutely, its the ultimate set up, and it still works with old stuff IF needed

 

Most people will only need USB docked so just connect all your old USB shit to a USB Hub etc

Dunno why people want old USB, probably because the industry is slow to adopt, this will help push USB C even faster

The 15" base model actually looks like pretty good value...

 

13" with 16gb upgrade is $2,000. So for $400 more you get quad core i7, bigger screen, and a dedicated GPU.. but then again.. it is $2400 xD.

You can connect over wifi for itunes syncinc, or use air drop, or handoff for moving between apps, plus universal copy paste between mac ipad and iphone - no cable needed

The 13" with Touch Bar is pretty high IMO. Hopefully, Apple will do a massive price cut next generation (they did for MBA and the rMBP when the 2nd gen came out)

ah... that's what was missing. There was a 15" iGPU version before right? That would knock off at least $200 from the base 15" price. Definitely would have bought that if that were an option.

There are a few things that you can do without today simply because it was the public that saw no more use in those things. The most common port in computers is not one of those things.

It's the price of progress. Apple did away with the 30-pin, disc drive, HDD based storage, and a bunch of other stuff and of course people complained but once the rest of the market caught up it was actually better in hindsight. 

 

I for one am happy when Apple makes a large move towards a certain standard because it causes the rest of the market to speed up and makes adoption rates higher.

Why do they removed every port and added 4 USB C / thunderbolt ? They even didn't include the adapters in the box . So one for USB , one for HDMI , one for ..........................
