32nm in general clocks higher/easier than 22nm (on 4,5GHz+ range).
In short : FinFET (22nm) likes lower voltages, hates heat, and doesn't scale as far as older stuff. It's primary reason why Ivy isn't that big of an upgrade over Sandy on LGA 1155.
Side note : 14nm+(+) was needed to reach Sandy Bridge level frequency ranges again (ie. 5GHz clocks to be pretty easy obtainable for average quality dies).
PS. IB-E LCC : 1.86B 256mm2 vs. Westmere Hex : 1.17B 240mm2.
You are over 0.6B transistors (or a G80 GPU) short, to call my Vcore too high :P
How's performance vs. my score though ?

CPU : Core i7 6950X @ 4.26 GHz + Hydronaut + TRVX + 2x Delta 38mm PWM
MB : Gigabyte X99 SOC (BIOS F23c)
RAM : 4x Patriot Viper Steel 4000MHz CL16 @ 3042MHz CL12.12.12.24 CR2T @1.48V.
GPU : Titan Xp Collector's Edition (Empire)
M.2/HDD : Samsung SM961 256GB (NVMe/OS) + + 3x HGST Ultrastar 7K6000 6TB
DAC : Motu M4 + Audio Technica ATH-A900Z

I see this thread is coming up on 5 years on the 4th, congrats! I got some new old hardware and a Q9650 out of an old Optiplex that did quite well, @Jumper118 I'm not far from yours but im not sure what voltage you had. This one was on air and had it at 1.35

wow. i better get an internet thread birthday cake for something.

i was at 1.525v on air back in 2015 with my first P45 board. those last few cb are very hard to get. i think i tested that chip on phase and it wont go any higher.

Still never going to end up touching one of those. For what they are being sold for, and the price of Xeons being under half of what it was when I got my X5450 for $50 (pre modded), Q9650 aren't worth it if bought on their own.

Now to hope that when my E5450 arrives it can smash my X5450's score.

I give you one/two weeks before you buy another one.
Maybe E5-1680 v2 :)

Haha. I've been having this 3960X laying for so long, but now I'm finally done. I've tried every unlocked 2011 chip except e5-1620, 4960X and your beautiful octa. And about getting your chip, HEEEELLLL NO. Those are going for like $450+ here in Norway. I think I'm just gonna retire with my OG 4930K :P

Virtual cake sent your way, yeah this chip started getting voltage hungry past 4.0Ghz, the jump from 4.1 - 4.13 even required a lot so I should have just left it.

Make sure to tag me when you post that E5450, and didn't realize how much Q9650s are going for on the used market, this came out of a Optiplex 960 that I thought had a C2D but had this instead. Got some other chips as well so ill try posting those later tonight. Miss doing this stuff, glad to see everyone for the most part still active!

I just hope that my low latency DDR2 kit and P5Q Deluxe hold up. I've managed to get the FSB running stable at 440MHz (just like with my old E8500) with my QX6850, but various parts of the motherboard start going haywire.

This chip was a pain in the (Ad friendly content)... maybe I just don't know my AM3 stuff and the fact that it's been a while or something but I managed 3.8. Do like these post Bulldozer chips though.

Yeah....Core 2 Quads have definitely held up a lot better, since only at 3.3GHz you can get 328CB with them.

Yeah i'll give them that no doubt, but in $-Performance I think AMD still took this cake at the time

Changed out the Xeon E3-1240 in my main for a i7-3770, nice little jump but the temperature difference between Sandy and Ivy is wonderful
