Hate against PETA

Allic

I have a question about the organisation PETA. They are an organisation that works with animal rights and they really do make a lot of change. My question is: why are so many people against them?

I cant necessarily speak for everyone or even against everyone in PETA but there are those that take animal rights too far. Im sorry but no amount of arguing is going to make me believe that a chicken or cow has equal rights to a person. Do I think they deserve to not be in horrible conditions? yes, but if thinking that animals are lower than humans makes me a bad person, so be it.

Isn't the hate they receive because they take it too far?
They are the kind who would put an animal's life before a human's life.

And then there's things like this

Which really doesn't help.

Because the majority of their members are prety much insane and take things WAY too far. PETA isn't the only crazy organization either, ones like green peace are just as bad and have actually caused allot of damage.

I can understand how you are thinking and i think a lot of people think that way but what if everyone would think that way? What do you mean with "too far"?

For example the people who claim "its not food, its violence" protest that was active for a little bit (not sure if still going on)

Because they hate on Pokémon and anyone who's an enemy to Pokémon, is an enemy to me >:(

/s

It's just that they take some things way out of context. Overall they do a lot of good things, animal cruelty sucks. It's terrible. But seeing some of the things they focus on (eg Pokémon) just gives a wrong impression of them.

Because PETA are an extremist group. They're also broken hypocrites, as they kill 90% of the animals they receive at their Virginia shelter. I've been a cat owner for my whole life and I would never let them hear the end of it if they took one of my cats away from me because apparently I'm a slave owner to them (lol fucking what?)

Yes, it's been confirmed PETA does indeed kill 90% of animals they receive.

Peta kills something like 96% of the animals it saves. It claims most of the time, it does so because the animals are so gravely injured, however reports out of there are mainly because they simply cannot find housing for the animals.

Peta fights for animals rights, yes. But also employs scare tactics and less than ethical advocation of animals rights. Such as the common act of assault, by throwing paint on people who they deem are "bad." They are just straight up overly-sensitive and ideologically flawed. Just like feminism.

As other have stated PETA is an extremist group.

While supporting animal rights is pretty much universally seen as good, the methodes PETA use to advocate animal rights have gone too far.

For example, PETA has on several occassions voiced support for the Animal Liberation Front, which is a group that is known for firebombing animal shelters and commiting arson against research facilities.

PETA is also a pretty hypocritical organization. As already pointed out, their animal shelters euthanize about 90% of the animals they take in.

This haven't stopped them from protesting other animal shelters and sending death threats to employees at these animal shelters.

Pen and Teller did a great episode of their show "Bullshit!" on PETA.

Some of the reasons why people hate PETA:

Have been funding and helping the terrorist orgainisation Earth Libration Front, which has among other things fire bombed research centers. According to court documents, Ingrid Newkirk herself has also been involved in burning down buildings.

PETA was also involved in the Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) group, which were described by the FBI as a domestic terrorist threat after having attacked people working with animal-testing related companies. For example they temporarily blinded a person by spraying chemicals into his eyes, and they brutally beat another researcher. Both of these incidents happened at the victims homes.

Newkirk publicly said that she thought it was good because it was getting peoples' attention.

PETA kills the vast majority of animals they "rescue". In fact, they only spend about 1% of their budget on actually helping animals. The rest is marketing, raising more money, protests, buying giant freezers to store all the bodies of animals they "freed", and so on.

They compare meat eaters to murderers, and farms to the concentration camps used to execute Jews during WW2. That's a pretty big "fuck you" to all the victims of the aforementioned things. They even pleaded to Yasser Arafat that Palestinian suicide-bombers should not harm animals. It kind of highlights their "animals are more important than humans" attitude they got.

A front group for PETA called "Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine" was pretending to be giving medical advice to people. They were making claims that were not based on scientific evidence. Instead they were giving people "advice" which was actually meant to help animals rather than the people. The American Medical Association even demanded that they stop their "inappropriate and unethical tactics used to manipulate public opinions".

Their website aimed at children had stories like how employees at fast food restaurants would pee on the customers' food before serving it. They were also sponsoring Gary Yourofsky to hold lectures in schools. Gary has been arrested 13 times for various crimes related to "saving animals". He has also said that he wants people who use animals to suffer, such as how medical researches using animal testings deserves to be burned to death. He also also employed by PETA for several years.

There is a ton more, like how they are against medicine that saves peoples' lives because it was developed using animals (even though Newkirk herself relies on insulin to stay alive, but she literally justifies this by saying she is more important than others).

Basically, PETA is a terrorist group full of hypocrites that don't give a fuck about humans, and pretend to care about animals even though they kill most of the ones they pretend to save.

I hate most movements. The problem isn't necessarily a certain ideal that the organization is based off of - but many movements / organizations etc. based upon an ideal often go too far. I don't like PETA because the movement and people involved with it often become a nuisance. They shove advertisements in my face everywhere about how I shouldn't eat meat based on awful logic (e.g. advertisement on the Skytrain that showed a cat and a pig saying "Why love one but eat the other?"), they spread misinformation at times (as does almost any movement) just to push their agenda...

I don't have a problem, per say, with people who support animal rights... you do you. I'm not into torturing animals or anything. Having said that, I'm gonna keep eating meat and quite frankly don't care about the living conditions my chicken mcnuggets had. But as soon as it turns into a giant movement, misinformation and harassment and trying to group people or shame people for what they believe becomes part of the process which just makes the whole thing toxic.
