Experiences with non-techies

She should try DHMO...

I do it all the time, and I turned out like shit. I had some people in my workplace (guys scared of all things chemical) a bit freaked when I told them about this Dihydrogen Monoxide that was in all the pipes and bottles and food put there by the guv'mint.

For anyone who wants to know more about this horriffic chemical that is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide, look here and become educated. Use a VPN though, or The Man will be onto you! http://www.dhmo.org/

I don't do signatures.

When you are using a computer with a touch screen and your non tech savvy mom/dad comes into the room, notices some dust on the screen and tries to wipe it off but accidentally pulls up your porn tab. lol

Thats not exactly relevant. You don't need to be techie to know what a touch screen is. And I feel like there's a story behind this somewhere...

Virtual desktop in Win 10. Problem solved.

I should probably use it myself

Also, this is another story I read somewhere (I'm full of these lol) some guy (around the 13-15 age range) walked into a Fry's Electronics since he needed a new ATX mid-tower to fit a 240mm radiator. His current case said it did, but it lied apparently. He goes up to an employee and asks him what he suggests and he starts showing him these mATX cases. Thinking he misheard he said "No I mean something that can fit an ATX board". The employee's response? "Kid, you don't know what you're talking about with this ATX, Star Wars, whatever nonsence." My jaw literally dropped upon hearing this considering Fry's employees usually know what they're doing.

It's not uncommon for there to be a fry's employee who has no idea what the fuck he/she's doing. Guy could have been transferred from another department where they don't have to know about PCs (as ironic as it might be).

Typically, if you go into the parts department, they know what they're doing. They know what goes where, and what works best.

EXCEPT FOR 2 PERSONAL EXCEPTIONS:

  • That woman who told me the K (4790K) means it comes with the stock heatsink (didn't learn about OCing yet). Considering I had a Z87 board and AIO watercooling, that was a waste of money
  • An employee who basically told me to scram, when I saw a kid who obviously blew his budget on an AX860i (he had a GTX 960, didn't see any other parts)

Could have possibly been the same woman now that I think about it... Middle aged, same location...

I kid you not, I had a kid in my class ask me that if you use liquid cooling in your pc, how much does your water bill go up.

But it does...just like your windows bill goes up the more you're on the main desktop screen (not even joking someone said this).

To an extent, he isn't wrong

It does cost money to buy coolant in order to clean and fill it up, whether it's the first time, or for scheduled maintenance

you can build a pc that looks much better than a mac and jokes on the people who bought the 100,000 dollar car when your car is faster and more powerful with a v8 engine while they have a v2 engine

V2? Don't try to comment on engine types when you don't know shit about automobiles. You're acting just like the non-techies being talked about on this thread.

V2 engines are usually put on motorcycles and really really light cars...

I have a friend who is non-techy. I told to just explore everything when it comes to the web. It would be easy if he'll only read everything that would be on it before clicking something. he doesn't want to and let me do it instead because he's afraid to touch anything on the computer and he'll be the reason why a gadget would be broken or something.

Anytime I open CMD on one of our schools computer, everyone's like; "Oh shit he's hacking the computer!".

Don't forget to change the color of the text to green so they'll really get scared!

Motorcycles, sure. But when you're talking about cars then it's gonna be something very odd, because it's not really worth it to but a V engine into a car like that. The manufacturer would most likely put an inline engine in the vehicle instead.
