[TPU]NVIDIA is Reducing GTX 770's Price

Those who waited for reductions of the GTX 770 rejoice. Although I don't see the R9 285 as a direct competitor of the 770, I do think this is a smart move. At that price I think they should reduce the price of the GTX 760 too in my opinion. What do you guys think? Fair priced? Does it look more attractive now?

NVIDIA's response to AMD Radeon R9 285 isn't major (a new product launch). The company believes it already has the products out there to take on it. The company is likely working with add-in card partners, and retailers, to tweak pricing of its performance-segment GeForce GTX 770 2GB, bringing its price around the US $275 mark, $25 more than the cheapest R9 285, and roughly the same price as factory-overclocked ones. It's pricing is down from the $325 point it was hovering over.

The GTX 770 costs roughly the same as the GTX 760, for NVIDIA to sell, with the former only imposing slightly higher VRM requirements. Our tests show that the GTX 770 still ends up with better energy efficiency figures than the R9 285. Based on the 28 nm "GK104" silicon, the GTX 770 packs 1,536 CUDA cores, 128 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface.

This is good news. Hopefully they'll drop the 760's price too, allowing people to use a 760 in a 'kill your console' build.

At the time, they did. They still look pretty good, considering the GTX 295 was a dual PCB engineering marvel, the cooler actually was decent. As for the 480, the chrome heat spreader looks decent and actually servers to dissipate heat as well.

nvidia has charged way more for thier cards then they need to for ages because they know the loyal people will buy it "because the drivers are better". gtx770's used to be £400 now they're likely to be around £200 like amd's 280x.
titans used to be £800, now you can get a titan black for the same price...
780's used to be £500, now they're £350ish.
I haven't bough a new nvidia card because i was sick of getting ripped off a few months later. a gtx760 is £160-£220 but an XFX r9-280 which outperforms it can be had for £151.

before any idiot gets butthurt, i agree the gtx480 is the best looking reference card and is atleast 50% of the reason why i bought one, certainly wasnt for the power consumption...

If only AMD could drive the prices of Intel CPU's down too, sadly it looks like it's not happening anytime soon.

 

But as for this, who knows maybe it's a sign that the next gen maxwell cards won't be absolutely and utterly destroyed in the price to performance ratio compared to amd cards

what, how, are you american, i payed 300$ for my 280x and i wont need to upgrade for 3+ years, so not much more than a console member ship if you put down the investment

actually this has happend, atleaset for the ensusists chips, a 6 core used to be 600 now its 400

Laugh all you want. My post was in regard to reference coolers pre GTX 700 era. At the time they were the best people could get for stock cards. Anyone old enough to have experienced the 295 and 480 launch hype would know this. That being said, yes there were somewhat better looking aftermarket designs or water blocks, but compared to stock reference coolers, they were the better looking at the time.

I payed in usd, tracked the prices at amazon and bought it when it was 180 after rebate. It should he okay, not planning to do dual monitor setup, my monitor is 1680 by 1050 so it should be okay for now, might upgrade in 3 years or more,.
