Isn't the 770 a better card than the 285?

I think 770=280 and since 285=280 then should be roughly equal

Laugh all you want. My post was in regard to reference coolers pre GTX 700 era. At the time they were the best people could get for stock cards. Anyone old enough to have experienced the 295 and 480 launch hype would know this. That being said, yes there were somewhat better looking aftermarket designs or water blocks, but compared to stock reference coolers, they were the better looking at the time.

I'm 28 years old, I've "experienced" the hype back then, I found them ugly that time and I still find them ugly now. You are talking to a guy that since 1998, have used non-windowed cases because I didn't like how the internals looked. I'm going to make my first ever build with a windowed case this year because I'm really finding the PC components really sexy now. But my post is just for laughs(although I did that face expression), I know everyone has different opinions, I respect yours. :)

At the time, they did. They still look pretty good, considering the GTX 295 was a dual PCB engineering marvel, the cooler actually was decent. As for the 480, the chrome heat spreader looks decent and actually servers to dissipate heat as well.

There was also a single PCB model, I in my folly back then had for a very brief time one BFG dual PCB 295 and one single PCB Gigabyte 295 in SLI.

I would say the engineering marvel was putting both GPUs on the single PCB not having to use 2, the twin PCB 295 was very heavy and very loud.

I don't think is because the 285 it's on pair... it's more than that, plus we're getting new cards soon. Gotta clean the inventory.

Actually forgot about the single PCB revision. There are people still to this day running 2x SLI GTX 295 EVGA RED Edition cards.

Although I only had 1 MSI gtx 295, it was a great card back in the day, and still is, I currently still have it in one of my htpcs.

I got rid of mine and used a single 580 when they launched, it was a Zotac card.

One 295 went on ebay and the other I gave to a friend who still uses it, not many BFG cards around now.

Isn't the 770 a better card than the 285?

In the real world you'd be pushing shit up hill to tell the difference.   They trade blows and when one is better it's really only by a few frames at best.   I used to recommend the 770 over the 280 if someone was interested in frame syncing tech because the 280x doesn't support freesync, but then the 285 came out and it does (GCN1.1) so that is the card I was going to start recommending.  Now we are talking about nvidia dropping the prices on their 770 which makes it a close call again, unless of course g-sync stays expensive and freesync lives up to expectations.

This is good news. Hopefully they'll drop the 760's price too, allowing people to use a 760 in a 'kill your console' build.

You only need an R7 270/X for that.

Well, sadly all the pre-700 series reference cards look kinda like crap.

Sorry but GTX 690 and TITAN are both pre-700 series and have same cooler so "technically" your argument is invalid.

Or you think 700 series coolers are also ugly. Short time between those cards and 700 series though.

yes i think it is, but a 285 is more expensive than a280whichis the samechip, you can get a 280 (7950) for £151 wheras a 770 (680) will cost you 250+ going up to 330 so you could nearly get 2x 280's for the price of a 770.

CF280's would also out perform a £400 780 by around 50%

Nice. I'd like to see a drop in CPU prices though, no matter how unlikely it is. I mean, cheap 760's would be good, but sli wouldn't be much good with a Pentium. :P

I paid $500 for a 2 GB GTX 770 at launch, including shipping and taxes. Seeing it at $275 makes me cringe. But, it's still a good thing that stuff is getting cheaper.

I understand your feeling, but at least it was from launch, you've already gave it a good use(I think haha).
