For 1440 I think 4 GB would help. I want a 1440 monitor been waiting to see what G sync does. That ROG monitor is a little pricey.

You have 6 other options on the market right now... Dell and ACER both have a G-Sync monitor out.

1440 monitors or 1080?

Oh...1080p. Apologies. I'm still waiting for 1440p to really become a standard.

Will this lead to price drops in 770s made by other manufacturers too? If so, how long until they might change their prices? I'm looking at buying another MSI Twin Frozr Gaming GTX 770 4GB OC for SLI. I could just buy NVIDIA's, but that's less fun. Although stock coolers aren't that great, I don't think, for SLI.

Sorry that Nvidia doesn't have a telepathic way of letting you know it is about to can prices.

And I'm pretty sure you're still in the return window if the price drop is so worrisome for you.

Only has £230 to spend on a GPU. I needed it quite urgently as my current system has nearly his the 13 year mark and is about to die. If I were to return it, I wouldn't really know how long it will take before the price drops and waiting for a GTX 970 to drop to £230 seems rather unlikely for 2 or more quarters.

Maybe this will mean a sub $600 enthusiast card to be released. :o

GTX 900 series, Nvidia will make an announcement September and sites known for their rumors being accurate say new Maxwell desktop GPUs will be released September/October and the Nvidia will skip the 800 named to make their desktop and mobile GPUs on the same name scheme.

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P

Even I feel tempted, 2 of these at 1440p maybe they'll do nicely. I guess I'll wait till the new series arrive and see if Nvidia reduces the 780 too.

What I'm really interested in is how the cards will perform, and yes how it looks.

Laugh all you want. My post was in regard to reference coolers pre GTX 700 era. At the time they were the best people could get for stock cards. Anyone old enough to have experienced the 295 and 480 launch hype would know this. That being said, yes there were somewhat better looking aftermarket designs or water blocks, but compared to stock reference coolers, they were the better looking at the time.

Yeah I have to agree with that. Each card had it's own unique styling and that helped us remember each generation of cards even better. I'm personally found of the stock design of the current gen GTX 770+ series (The 690 and Titan included). I mean Nvidia did put effort in their cards in terms of cooling and appearance.

They have to leave room for their board partners to improve on with their custom designed and engineers coolers and PCBs otherwise why would I buy a MSI Twinfrozr GTX 770 if the stock card reaches the same acoustic levels while maintaining acceptable temperatures. :)

Anyway I went quite off topic there.

Woohoo that's why I love competition! Price reductions are always great for customers and now they made their cards even more appealing to some more people around here

Watch out, there might be ninjas out there

EVGA makes the best looking card in my opinion, and most of their cards use a custom PCB but keep the stock layout so you can have an awesome air cooler but easily upgrade to a waterblock.

Yeah they do look great, lets see how the new cards design will be. I wish they had some minimal leds on it though.

yeah, a soft glow from behind the cooler where the card connects to the motherboard would look great!

yes i think it is, but a 285 is more expensive than a280whichis the samechip, you can get a 280 (7950) for £151 wheras a 770 (680) will cost you 250+ going up to 330 so you could nearly get 2x 280's for the price of a 770.

CF280's would also out perform a £400 780 by around 50%

6610_35_msi_radeon_r9_280_3gb_twin_frozr

A 285 is not the same chip as a 280. They are different architecture. The 280 is a Tahiti chip and the 285 is a Tonga chip. Think of it like the 750/ti graphics cards they are maxwell cards under the 700 series naming scheme. Unless I misunderstood you. I apologize if I did.

EDIT: If you mean same chip as in performance and also the actual raw specs then yeah I agree.

The architecture is different, although with somewhat minor differences. R9 285 uses GCN 1.2, which is why it supports XDMA and TrueAudio.

in the UK at that price point, its better to go with a Tri X 290, only about £20 more and it shits on the 770.

Just like Broadwell is only great for people upgrading from SandyBridge, the 285 is good for people who didn't already have a 280 and needed an upgrade. Though I agree with an earlier poster who said the 290 was better value for close to the same price.
