Rate the Photo Above you

Hey guys!

I thought I'd show the photography section some more love, and maybe try to get it more active.

So I have a little game, I'll start it off. Basically, you're going to rate the person above you's photo, and then post you own to be rated.

Rules:

  • ONLY constructive criticism allowed
  • No retaliation ratings, if someone gives your photo a low score, you are NOT allowed to give them a poor rating to 'get back' at them
  • No OT posts, please stick to the rating-photo posts only, if you see a post that doesn't follow the rules, ignore it and move on
  • Photos can be rated on a 1-10 scale, or can be verbal ratings
  • Photos must be your own
  • Skip OT posts and rate the photos above them
  • Have fun!

To start us off:

I like it, I think it has great potential. But i think there's maybe abit too much light. I guess you took this near a city? Maybe try lowering the blacks or the general exposure. 8/10

I'm not a good critic soo excuse my criticism. I personally like black and white photos :) I like that the squirrel is grasping the tree.. The background blur helps isolate the subject a lot .. i like it .I think that the squirrel is too dark .. maybe a bit of an exposure bump should fix it. 9/10

Shot with a D40 w/ 18-55 kit lens (with haze and lots of dust inside.. I will replace it sometime)

Wow 10/10. First off great composition! Her eyes really draw you into the picture and if your eyes start to wonder the hands and slight curve of the cloth really draw you back to her face.

Here is one I did last night. Camera: T3i Settings: 1/200 - F1.8 - ISO3200 - 50mm

That is bloody excellent, I have to give 10/10 because fire hypnotises me.

Here is mine that I took a while ago, check out that colour :)

I'd say around 7/10, looks like it has a vintage filter on it. I don't generally like that kind of photo, but it's not bad. IMO it just looks a tad washed out. (Not trying to be rude! Trying to be constructive!) :D Either way, It still looks pretty darn good, beautiful scenery.

Note for my photo. I have yet to dive into the world of photo editting, so this is just what I was able to capture with my camera.

Taken with a Canon Rebel T3i/600D with a 18-55mm lens.

The subject matter was an insect that had landed on the car window, and I took the photo through a very dirty piece of glass. :)

I can assure you that the image is 100% genuine, no filters or effects :P

Just a cheap Kodak C713 :) also I'd give you 8/10, pretty hard to take a picture of an insect in flight

Here is another one of mine I was quite impressed with and is also 100% geniune with no filters or effects.

I like this one a lot more :D 8.5/10! I dig the plants in the foreground.

I like taking photos of every day things, and taking a photo that you can't tell what it was, but still looks cool :D. Try guessing what this is if you want. (Hint: Yes its a rock, its a part of something)

Again, Canon Rebel T3i, no filters, no editting at all.

I'll give 6/10, the blurriness is getting to me lol

I'm starting to run out of ones that I actually took, maybe I should get my lazy ass back out there and see where it goes.

Nice 9/10! You should try taking HDRs if you haven't yet. And if you have, you should post them. Mine is of a swallow's nest taken with my HTC One and only edited slightly on the phone and now uploaded from the phone so it never left the phone. (edit. yes it did because what I just described is apparently impossible.)

If this doesn't work I'll have to put it up on the computer.

I don't have anything that can take HDR's otherwise I would :) also nothing there mate.

Yeah, apparently it's impossible to upload to the forum from a mobile device. Or at least from my particular mobile device.

Also all you really need to take HDRs is a camera in which you can modify the exposure. Then just take three or five separate pictures with ranging exposure (on a tripod of course) and put them together in software.

(edit) Oh and also just to have less text only posts here's an example taken with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 and edited with Luminance HDR. The effect in this one is quite unnecessarily wild and you can make it tamer if you want.

Sounds pretty cool, once I have some employment I might invest in some better equipment.
