This sort of thing has always been around.  There just is no large scale need for them so there aren’t very many, which also makes them pricier.  It’s usually enterprise stuff For when some on site worker needs more power than is possible with a laptop.  They’re generally ruggedized.  High end surveying maybe?  I dunno.  The people that need them will know.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

They're main use is normally for rugged out of doors scenarios, think warzones or disaster zones. Someone could pull one of these out of the back of a jeep in an earthquake zone and very quickly be able to control the entire area from a single device, run recovery simulations or use it as a control terminal for drones and the likes.

Do any of those things require a machine of this performance level?

ENCRYPTION IS NOT A CRIME

Not really but remember, these things might end up being the only computer available for miles around, its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, right?

Define portable.

Anything is portable if you have someone else carry it for you.

So portable in the sense that you also need/have portable power source?

Better add this on to the purchase:

This is literally just a desktop with a display for a side panel and an attached keyboard lol

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Summary

Here comes a portable pc with an enclosure coming from the mid '80s.........

Spoiler

The basic configuration outperforms most of the computers around, and it comes with a Threadripper-3990X too.

My thoughts

Quite strange to be able to bring around a computer with these horsepowers, however it can be used to work on-site (i.e. update a realtime application on the fly, CAD, ...).

A bit worried about the temps and cooling system though.

Whoever brings that $15,000 beast to the LTX LAN party will surely win the day.

Guess what could fit inside that? The EPYC X2P 128-core hexa-4K field workstation:

It's literally the $100k PC Linus tried to get his editors to use crammed into a 68-liter expandable chassis. It would be hilarious if all the editors had to edit off of this during a "mandatory" LMG-wide vacation.
