LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

tldr. Log is acting weird, but WU's seem to get done and accepted. Points aren't being awarded properly, but is an issue w. F@H servers.

So I've dug in my log a little bit, since the missing points updating was bothering me a little bit, and I needed a sanity check. I left my main rig folding for 24 hours at full tilt, with an occasional gaming break once in a while. I then extracted the log, and found all the lines with "Final Credit estimate".

Spoiler

06:00:48:WU03:FS02:Final credit estimate, 2614.00 points

I found out that several of the lines with final credit estimate was present multiple times. I don't know if this is an issue, but I am not too concerned since the timestamps are identical, so I assume its just en error in the log generation. However if I remove all the duplicates, and add the points together I should have made 653454.00, plus whatever my server with a 6 core CPU slot crunch out (a rough estimate would be 10-20,000)over the last 24 hours. So in total ~670k points. Not overly impressive I know, but still a fair bit.

In the meantime EOC has registered a total of 288,167 points in total. So in actuality less than half of whats expected.

Spoiler

image.png.09374b7c46658a835fcec7c28984a1d8.png

I can only assume that I am not the only one with issues of points updating. And I can see on the F@H forums, it is something they are aware of. Apparently the points won't get awarded until the work from the collection server has been send along to another server. Since the servers stall all the time, alot of completed and unawarded WU's get stuck, until they get it fixed. So they should turn up eventually, with full QRB.

My point is (no pun intended), that I'll of course keep folding, even though admittedly it takes some of the fun out, to be honest. But the real prize at the end of the road is of course not the points, but the incredible contribution to science, we all are helping with.

To all the newbies like myself, you're not crazy, the points sometimes don't update. It can take some time before you'll get them, but eventually you'll get em. See it as a staggered RPG attack, with burn/poison damage over time 🤓

To the veterans, is there something else I could check for in the log, to make sure nothing is wrong in my end? As I said I'm not too concerned with the multiple identical entries in my log. But could it actually point to some issue with my F@H installation?

I'm folding with a GTX 760 which has 170W TDP but when folding it only uses about 55% of the TDP according to GPU-Z. The whole system only takes 250W from the wall when folding. It has an i5-3450 @ 3.7GHz, the GTX 760 and GT 430

How did you get your i5 to go to 3.7Ghz?

Desktop 1 : Ryzen 5 3600 (O/C to 4Ghz all-core) | Gigabyte B450M-DS3H | 24GB DDR4-2400 Crucial(O/C to 2667) | GALAX RTX 2060 6GB | CoolerMaster MWE 650 Gold

Desktop 2 : i5 10400 | 32GB DDR4-3200(@ 2667Mhz) |  EVGA GTX 1070 SC 8 GB | Corsair CV450M

Laptop : ASUS ROG Strix G17 : i7-10750H, 16GB RAM, GTX 1660Ti 6GB(90W), 1TB NVMe SSD

Yoga 3 14 - i7-5500U, 8GB RAM, GeForce GT 940M, 256GB SSD

Ordered 3950X about a month ago, but the parts finally started shipping not long ago. Still waiting on ram so still using my old 3200 C16 kit from the last build.

By rising the multiplier. It's actually set to 39 but when using all cores it only goes up to 37.

I have the CPU on a Z77 board so I'm not sure if that's possible with lower end chipsets.

I know, it's stupid to have a locked CPU on a Z77 board, but I got it for free and I'm planning to upgrade it to an i7-3770K if I can find one for cheap

Loved my 3770k, from memory it was around 4.2 on all cores all the time on just an H80 cooler.

Cheers, taken a few years to get it to where I am happy with it. Stuff in the room is a bit of a mess since I need to do the cracks again. At least the folding is making use of the power.

So i modded my 980TI using maxwell tweaker, stable at 1542, pulling 375w underload, been folding chonky bois 27k-80 since yesterday without any problem. However, the modded bios doesn't work with any newer driver than 385.41. Does anyone know if there is a way to get Nvidia 980Ti Ref with modded bios work with the latest driver?

Edit: added my modded bios

So i modded my 980TI using maxwell tweaker, stable at 1542, pulling 375w underload, been folding chonky bois 27k-80 since yesterday without any problem. However, the modded bios doesn't work with any newer driver than 385.41. Does anyone know if there is a way to get Nvidia 980Ti Ref with modded bios work with the latest driver?

Edit: added my modded bios

As far as I know, there isn't a way around this. I had the same problem a couple of years ago, and found out 385.69 is the latest driver where you can have a modded bios. (Nvidia patched this in 387.92) However if I'am not mistaken you can flash a different bios from a higher clocking card with a same PCB (theoretically, but it's a dangerous game and very likely you brick your graphics card). You can see a list Here on page 16 for 980TI and what PCB they have. For folding I would just leave it on the old driver, or flash the stock bios and update to a newer driver.
