Motherboard VRM Tier List v2 (currently AMD only)

I just bought a ryzen 1600af but am new to all this so this list means nothing to me, I have a choice of these to pick:

MSI B450M-A PRO MAX

Gigabyte B450M DS3H

ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0

 

I will eventually upgrade to a 3600 or 3700, and might like to overclock the ram or processor but am not overly fussed about that, are any of these acceptable for me?

I have what would be considered a budget case with minimal airflow(only 1 front fan) but coming from intel so my temps have always been below 65c for cpu/gpu.

i am also new but i have seen many ryzen 1600af builds on youtube BUT 1600af is a very good prossesor so think again upgrading ti.

I was not able to find such thing as an Asrock B450. These are all the b450 Asrock has listed on their website and none of them seem to be a plain B450, it's always something like Gaming, Pro, Steel Legend etc. Am I missing something?

Just clean up problem, there is no Asrock board at tier C

Mortar is as close to mATX Tomahawk as it gets, though they are still different

What about the Gaming Plus? They're in the same C Tier. Asking because some of them aren't available in my region.

I bought a Ryzen 3700x, with 2070 super.

I am looking at these few motherboards, but I do not know which is the most recommended board to get.

- Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite

- ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus

- ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero (X470)

- ASUS Prime X570 Pro

 

I am not planning to do any extreme overclocking, maybe just a little (I heard Ryzen don't OC much either way)

And my budget is around $200 USD. A little over is ok as well.

 

I do not really need PCIe 4.0. But I have heard that X570 boards are generally better built.

Will love to hear any comments & recommendations.

Even if the Crosshair 7 is a X470 board?

I heard really mixed reviews on the prime pro. What is the reason the Elite is ranked lower?

 

Edit: what about all their X470 counterparts as well?

Yes. Flagship X470 after all

 

Elite ranked lower due to worse heatsink design

 

X470 TUF is just a B450 board (not even that good of one), X470 Prime Pro is terrible with awful heatsinks, X470-F is decent at the time

 

Gigabyte's only good X470 board is the Gaming 7

Could I run the Crosshair VIII Formula for a year on air cooling, then upgrade to water a year later, without damaging the VRMs too much? CPU is the 3950X, so I'd imagine the VRMs get toasty. I was thinking res -> CPU -> VRM -> GPU -> res for when I eventually go with it. If I gotta go CWC off the bat, would a $50 alixp pump and a couple of EK fittings do the job?

Might as well just take the heatsink off.and watch the VRM temperature, at worst just add a fan blowing it

Planning on a 120 exhaust which should take care of it I guess. Probably gonna build in the H510 Elite which I've heard has sub-optimal cooling, so I was kinda worried.

B450M Pro4-F

Both for the same price and are in same tier, wich one should I pick?

Steel Legend has more features (faster USB and extra fan header), I choose this

Hello. I just bought a 3700x. I have a 2600 paired with a Gigabyte b350-gaming 3, so I think it's not a bad upgrade. I'll give this PC to my brother, so I need a new mobo.

My firsts options were:

- ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus $246

- ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero $265

 

But after reading about how Asus is not good at support (and it seems that Asus doesn't have a local warranty in Argentina)

I'm between:

- MSI AM4 MEG X570 ACE $359

- GIGABYTE X570 AORUS PRO WIFI $309

 

The more I read about them, the more confused I am. I've never had an MSI mobo before, don't know about how good they are. Don't know about MSI software or BIOS.

I'm kinda ok with the Gigabyte BIOS in my b350-gaming 3, I really hate Gigabyte software (RGB fusion is like malware)

 

I know that "future-proof" it's not possible. But I tried to build something that will last a few years. That's why I bought the x3700 instead of 3600. And with that in mind, if in the future the 3700x is not enough I could change it for a 3900x or a 3950x or any compatible CPU.

I mean, I know Asus' warranty track record.isnt so nice but on paper they are great

 

What about standard ATX Aorus Pro? Maybe adding Wifi yourself combined is cheaper than buying one built in?
