Thing is unless you'll have more than two insanely power-hungry GPUs (300-400W) in your system, 1.3kW PSU would be more than enough. And the reliability or durability of PSU doesn't depend on it's wattage.

Quad-SLI and Quad-fire setups can easily chug 1200w all on their own before any overclocking. I ran two 780s in SLI for a year before I moved to my Fury X. I think the gpus alone were sucking up about 530w on their own after a fairly hefty oc. Well, hefty for reference cards.

assuming you're in the us, you can currently get this one, which should perfectly do

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/n3rG3C/antec-power-supply-hcp1300platinum

I do live in the US but 1300w won't cut it. I plan on adding four HD 7970s to my collection at some point and each of those suck down 300w stock. I want to be able to run anything I throw at this bench on a single psu. If I have to eventually add a second psu because I find a combination of parts that suck down over 1600w then I'll do it.

So in this case, it's actually opposite of what I assumed. The higher-wattage unit stays quieter at higher loads. I stand corrected.

I have a RMx 1000w in my main rig, its a few years old now but still runs like a champ. I'd agree with that about the AXi. I know a few people who have those and they've never complained about them. Well, one did but only cause its a little too long for the case he had. xD

I have the DQ-M 650 and it's very quiet, practically silent.

would that one be total overkill for stock r9 3900x and 1050Ti(not even 6-pin) for a friend?
if it is what tier would you recommend at least for rendering videos mostly, firend is recieving some funds from state to upgrade his equipment, running on i7 3930k atm, but with crappy Raidmax Thunder 735W, that needs to go too alongside his old CPU/Mobo/RAM

Depends on the price, if it's not that expensive then why not. If this build wouldn't use more powerful GPU ever, it'll be fine with smth from tier B and up, smth from Xilence \ be quiet! should be available in Serbia for a reasonable price i guess, aim for 550W.

It's same price as bequiet! Straight Power 11 550W and Bitfenix Whisper 650W, and only 10 euros more than Pure Power 11 600W (I personally got 400W one and I am super happy), but this Deepcool seems to be a good deal

It is. I mean, if that PC wouldn't use dGPU more powerful than GTX1050Ti then you'll be fine with 450-550W unit from tier B\B+, like CM MWE Bronze\Gold, Corsair CX\CXm, Seasonic S12G \ M12II (750W+), Xilence Performance X\A+, be quiet System Power 9 \ Pure Power 10\11, SilentiumPC L2\M2, Gigabyte PB\GH, Deepcool DQ-ST. Practically the only difference with tier A units are topology, these units are all double-forward which starts to whine with highest-tier GPUs but otherwise they're pretty much fine for anything aside from slightly lower voltage regulation and ripple suppression performance, and you certainly don't need more than 450W for 150W Ryzen 9 and 75W GTX1050 Ti. But whether it worth saving (only) about 50$ on this are up to you and if there's even slightest chance of getting better GPU i'd say it worth getting tier A unit like the one you're looking at.

I'm too uncertain about revolt pro to recommend, g3 has protection issues, so I'm going to recommend g2 and p2 out of those, both being super flower leadex ii based

Hello, I’m newbie here and planning to build a pc. While in considering phanteks revolt pro 850, will you add it to your list?

 Thanks

We discussed it just recently, it looks like it's based on Seasonic Focus platform so it uncertain, since it's quite old it's possibly still Focus FX, then it'll end-up with the rest of them at tier D+, but maybe they've switched to newer revision, Focus GX, then it's good. If you have any other options i'd recommend to avoid it.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve already go through some of the pages of this topic, and find that if the revolt pro based on old fx model, it will be D+ and if based on the new gx model then will be tier A. It seems to be a very big difference.

Since I won’t gamble on that, I’m now considering Amp series 750w. As my planning build would be:

3700x or 3800x

5700xt or 2070

3.5” HDD x2

SSD x2

Is it Phanteks Amp 750 is enough?Or if compare with Thermaltake GF1 750w, which one would be better?

thanks again

TT GF1 are some CWT platform, i'm not sure but since it's in tier A it most likely GPS or GPU or some variant, and a lot of other tier A units like Corsair RMx and Bitfenix Whisper are CWT based too so it should be similar, but i'm not an expert anyway.

Speaking of wattage, if this is purely gaming PC then even 550W would be enough, if this would be some workstation with simultaneous high load on CPU and GPU (like rendering) then i'd go with 650W. 750W are kinda overkill but this all depends on the price, if it's like 10$ more over 550\650W variant i'd say it worth it, but it's definitely not needed.

Hi Guys!

I'm looking for psu for my pc

this is what i found so far

Corsair CP-9020132 TX550M — 650 Watt 80 Plus  70 GBP or 61 GBP for 550 Watt

GIGABYTE G750H 750 Watt 61 GBP

I'm confused with this corsair, some website showing this psu as series TX-M or TXM, Is it the same?

That will means that's tier A on a list

My build is msi b450 gaming carbon ac

ryzen 5 3600

and rtx 2060 or 2070

is it better to buy stronger psu for future because the price difference is nothing or just stays with 550 Watt?

Thanks

it's the same, so yes, it is

honestly, you can do most of the consumer market (excluding stuff like HEDT/TR/Multi-GPU) on a 550w psu, i wouldn't go much further, since you're unlikely to use it anyways

You'll be okay with 550W if this is just a gaming build, but choosing between those two PSUs i'd go with Gigabyte one, it's better, both manufactured by CWT but Gigabyte GH are a bit more high-end, especially regarding operating noise (not that TXm are that loud but GH are quieter). Nevermind, i confused it with AP GM, go with Corsair TX550m.

OTP (Over Temperature Protection)

OTP or Over Temperature Protection shuts down when a certain temperature is reached, protecting the PSU from potentially melting. Intel requires this protection to be present in the recent 2.52 ATX spec, but before that it wasn’t required.

UVP (Under Voltage Protection)

UVP or Under Voltage Protection protects the PSU from dropping too much on voltage, allowing more current through, as OPP and OCP can’t detect this. Intel does not require this to be present, but we feel like it’s important enough to be a dealbreaker.
