Question: What server do you have?

Don't have specific server hardware, just one cobbled together from spare parts I had.

Specs:

i7 3770

Gigabyte Z77 UD3H

32GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Corsair CX450M

15TB of storage from a mixture of drives.

I use Windows Server 2016 Datacenter with around 8 VMs running in HyperV.

In terms of roles, I have a few:

Domain Controller, DNS and NPS

Hypervisor

File Server

RRAS/VPN

Application Server

Network Controller

WSUS

Media Server

What do you mean with "type" there? My servers are just regular desktop-PCs, if that's what you're asking.

I used to have a DL380 G7 but I replaced it with a home made solution. I also have a Microserver G10.

Server 1:

HPE ProLiant Microserver G10

AMD Opteron X3421 2.1GHz (4c/4t)

24GB DDR4-2400 ECC UDIMM

240GB BX500 boot drive

500GB 860 Evo for data

This is a HyperV 2019 server (with GUI) that also runs plex server (due to AMD IGP) and it also runs a handful of other VMs:

- File server for legacy systems (Win9x/2k/xp and MacOS 9.x)

- Unifi controller for Wi-Fi

- PiHole for DNS filtering

- Windows Server 2016 VM for remote desktop gateway

Server 2:

Custom built jankbox

Intel Xeon E5-2650v2 8c/16t

Chinese X79 board from aliexpress

64GB DDR3-1333 ECC Registered

120GB BX500 boot drive

3x 480GB Kingston A400 in RAIDZ1

BeQuiet Pure Power 11 450W gold PSU

Runs Proxmox VE 6.0 and is currently mostly used to do labs.

Also runs Docker with Portainer for managing them.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

  • 3 weeks later...

Not a "real" server but it does the trick.

  • Pentium G3258 @ 4.5GHz
  • 3x2GB random 1333 DDR3, adding a 4th stick causes a no-POST
  • Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 5
  • One of each: 1TB Seagate Barracuda, 1TB Toshiba DT01ACA100, 1TB Hitachi 7K1000, 160GB Seagate Momentus 5400.6, 250GB WD Blue, 120GB BX500 (OS)
  • Windows 10 Pro 1903
  • bae Enthoo Pro

Just does Plex, basic file server-y type things and editing/transcoding video.

Ultimately I would like to get 4x 6TB drives and run 'em in RAID and partition them how I need seeing as my current method is going to be really hurting for space again at the end of the year (especially the Plex drive).

My old gaming rig acts as a Plex server.

i5 3570K

16 Gigs of DDR 3

HD7950

500 Gig SSD

All my Plex movies and shows are stored on a QNap nas with a 8 TB hard disk. Id really like to replace this server with something smaller in size, as its a full ATX board. Not 100% sure how to do it, yet.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

i7-6700k

64GB ram

6 TB raw hard drive space

It's a dedicated server I rented in a datacenter, 24/7 availability with 1GB/s uplink and a dedicated IP. I use it mostly to run my cloud and some game servers for me and my friends and any other stupid projects I have my mind set on.

I may convert my old PC plus some spare parts I have laying around at home into a NAS at home, but that's a project for another day

75% of what I say is sarcastic

So is the rest probably
