The LG 38GL950G; The new God of the gaming 21:9

Recommended Posts

Looks interesting, but I prefer the 16:9 aspect ratio for the games I play the most (FPS).  I've tried UW displays in the past and they turn out to be little more than a novelty.  Flat 16:9 is where it's at, IMHO.

a bit of an odd resolution is it not?  Just 20 px shy of the common 3840 x 2160 (4K) at 3820.  If they had gone all the way it also would have been a very nice 2.4:1 instead of the random decimal ratios we usually see on 21:9 panels.

The panel is 3840x1600. The first post must have been a typo.

As for the resolution, it's pretty much perfect for browsing, coding and the like, 1600 is such a huge step up from 1440 even if it's "just" 160px.

Will be nice to view 4K content as well, if it's cinema stuff with blackbars.

I dno about that. I'd probably get more use out of my phone than I do out of a monitor.

I'd rather wait and have three 4k monitors for ultrawide. Nevermind the graphical horsepower I would need for that.

I can't stand the bezels in the middle...

Now i just have to figure out which organ to sell to afford it.

Kidney, or lung. You have two of each, so you can easily survive without one ;)

I find it supremely useful. Plus you can always just play in standard 16:9, and use 21:9 when you want the expanded real estate. There's no downside to 21:9, really.

Make it 2160p high next time though.

Other than that (and the price...), nice!

Bet ya $1799.

You should be able to see 21:9 UHD movies just fine on this though. technically It should have 1645 pixels in height to perfectly fit 21:9 UHD, but this is close enough that you'd see tiny black bars.

Yeah, they are lower res, but not by that much. Also, 34 v 38" isn't that big a difference, like a 55" TV to a 65"

Computer's don't make errors. What they do, they do on purpose. By now your name and particulars have been fed into every laptop, desktop, mainframe and supermarket scanner that collectively make up the global information conspiracy, otherwise known as The Beast.

You just be careful. Computers have already beaten the Communists at chess. Next thing you know, they'll be beating humans.

Thank god the Predator x34 is finally going to have some competition.

Makes me curious on if they're gonna try to enter the market through price penetration or not to steal customers

The Predator has had competition. Hell, I bought the Alienware ultrawide over the Predator because reviews were better and essentially the same monitor. Even colors were apparently better. For the same price too.

Yet it's still a difference, and honestly it's pretty substantial when it comes to having two windows open on the same screen.

Higher res is still higher res. That's like saying 1440p isn't a huge jump from 1080p. It isn't, but it's still enough that people care.

You might not, it doesn't negate the effect.

If I had the space two monitors might be more enticing, but with limited space 21:9 just makes more sense...I really don't think I could go back.

Even $1200 seems too cheap for the specs... 3840×1600, 144Hz, G-Sync and 38"? Damn, I'd say more like $2000

I'm guessing $1600 US.

It looks good to me. I have a 34 inch ultrawide, and it doesn't quite fill my entire field of view, at 38 inches it would. Though I am going to hold out on an upgrade until I can get MicroLED or OLED or at least HDR1000 cert. FALD.
