Remove any existing static IP configuration,  update the driver, then try to get an ip again

(ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew) also try netsh winsock reset and reboot.

nathanyule reacted to skimmilk5 in Whats the point of intel at this point
Intel is not a small startup. It's a multi-billion dollar corporation that hires over a hundred-thousand people as a semiconductor manufacturer. AMD is a smaller company than Intel (believe it or not), and while AMD still has great value, it comes down to the needs of the end user. In my personal computer, I use an AMD Ryzen processor, and I love it. In the server fleet that I manage, all of the processors are Intel, and for good reason: they've had more validation and have wider support on a lot of really funky enterprise applications. Intel's engineers are still incredibly intelligent people (and I can only hope to attain a portion of their knowledge), and they'll continue to innovate in the best way that they can to be competitive with AMD. They're not just going to shrivel up and die because AMD released a better product than they did - they're going to continue to try and release better products and outdo the competition.

Just a few years ago, you could ask the same question about AMD: why did AMD exist in 2015, when AMD FX was the best that they had to offer and it only offered mediocre performance compared to Intel? AMD wanted to claw back market-share, and they're only part of the way there, with Intel still comfortably holding a >60% market share.

nathanyule reacted to trag1c in How far would you drive for a used PC component?
It's hard to quantify because for me it really depends on what the item is, how much I want it, value of the deal. Not specifically PC related but Ill drive a day or two or longer for a car same would go for PC components depending on what it is.

nathanyule reacted to WaggishOhio383 in How far would you drive for a used PC component?
Really depends on the deal I'm getting. If it's a crazy good price I'd be willing to go up to an hour (or maybe 2 in an extreme case), but for the typical used market value, probably no more than 30 minutes. Both because it's just not worth it to drive that long for a used part when I prefer to buy new anyway, and because my car gets like 16mpg so I've gotta factor that into the price XD

nathanyule got a reaction from Mark Kaine in Nvidia 30 Series unveiled - RTX 3080 2x faster than 2080 for $699
I'm just hoping that AMD is a direct competitor of the cards and undercuts the pricing, especially in the mid range category, so nVidia has to respond by either giving more performance at the same price (super lineup) or reduce the price to compete with AMD's.

This probably won't happen because AMD can't seem to get their head in the game for GPUs, but I am hoping that I'm jinxing it.

nathanyule got a reaction from Xinnnnn in ryzen 3 3100 or ryzen 2600?
It depends on what you're doing. The 3100 is newer and marginally better in gaming. The 2600 is better in programs like Cinebench where the extra cores comes in handy. If you can find one, try to get a 3300x, performs like a 3600 at a better price and with a few less cores. If you could find a 2600 at the same price as a 3100, you should opt for the 2600. Otherwise, a 3100 is still a really good chip for the price.

You could do that.  But then you are watching the prices of hardware that is 3 months old.  Newer hardware will have replaced it by then.

nathanyule reacted to shoutingsteve in What PC Parts usually go on sale during Black Friday/ Cyber Monday?
I have a sad tale to share with you.  I wanted to buy a printer.  I found the one I liked in October, and decided to wait till Black Friday.  The price went up a couple weeks before Thanksgiving, then on Black Friday it was exactly the same price as it was in October.

Moral:  there is no Black Friday sale... it is mostly a sham.  A few things are actually a good deal, like the 100 dollar TVs, but beyond that, it is nothing special.

nathanyule reacted to minibois in What PC Parts usually go on sale during Black Friday/ Cyber Monday?
The deals nowadays on Black Friday/Cyber Monday don't feel as good.
Generally you will be able to save a bit of money on a videocard, CPU and certain other somewhat high-ish value parts like cases, PSU's and RAM.
But it will really depend on what you are shopping for and what kind of deals you're expecting.

If you are not familiar with the sort of pricing you might see on BF/CM you could look at Black Friday livestreams from LTT last year and the year before that to kind of get an idea of what pricing to expect:
But also be sure to - when the times comes around - to check if the deal you see is actually a deal. Using comparison websites (like for Amazon, there is camelcamelcamel.com) to see if the BF/CM price is actually lower than the normal sale price for the item.

vega 56/64 was a failure, nobody is buying them at this point for the most part  Its more then likely just the owners that have had them asking questions. 1070 is a good gpu and you should not have any regrets.

nathanyule reacted to Qub3d in Performance Gap between the Pixel 4a vs OnePlus Nord?
On paper, sure. In practice... eh? I just switched from a OnePlus 6T to a 4a, and though according to GSMArena I'm actually stepping DOWN in performance, in practice I noticed zero difference.

The one sticking point may be the adreno GPU, but I played a few games -- Monument Valley and Bloons TD6 -- and saw no performance dips.

    ---
I think the 4a has a fantastic software build; its Google at their best. The camera is lovely, and everything is well thought out and fluid. Oxygen OS is a perfectly acceptable ROM, but Pixel is the standard by which other Androids are measured for a reason.

In terms of objective experience, the Nord does have one big advantage: Higher-refresh screen. It *is* a noticeable improvement. That said, I find nothing wrong with 60hz.

The Nord's big drawback is avaliblity. If you live in North America, you'll need to tack on the cost of import+shipping to the already higher price over the 4a.

Used the powerline alternative today, much better speeds than my PCIe wifi card. The reason I needed to replace the PCIe wifi card was that I just got a 1070 and it would block both the lanes, so this alternative worked out great. Thanks for the info!

PSU Tier List 4.0 rev. 14.8 (END OF LIFE)
    Last Update: 27-07-2021

    Legend :
Gray - EoL/obsolete and/or otherwise not recommended for purchase.
Green - small form-factor (gold and blue colors are disregarded due to scarcity of SFX PSUs)
Gold - best units in the tier (includes requirements for blue color in tier A)
Blue - quiet operation under moderate load (see details in the spreadsheet)
Hyphen / Dash - Series / lineups separator
Slash - Models (inside one series) separator
Parenthesis / Round brackets - Model variations (which belong to the same position)
Square brackets - Additional description (wattage range, part of SKU code, label / casing color, release year)
Numbers in red colored square brackets - footnotes, see descritptions at the end of respective tiers
Low priority subtiers - Lack of info (no reviews) or minor issues (see the corresponding tab in the spreadsheet). Not recommended for purchase over any normal priority units.
Multi-rail units - Not necessarily better than single-rail units but provide an extra layer of protection by having 12V OCP set lower than total capacity, which is especially relevant for very high capacity units (=>1kW). Pay attention to rails configuration when using with high power draw components to avoid shutdowns.

See spreadsheet for changelog, methodology, detailed description of colors, review sources, notes on grayed-out units including issues like GPU incompatibility or quality and performance issues, and other additional info.

[8] Seasonic PRIME based units experience shutdowns with RTX3080/3090 (and possibly RX6900 XT) GPUs, especially ones with unlocked power limit like FE and ASUS Strix. It is recommended, if going with such units, to overprovision wattage, 1kW for RTX3080 and 1.2kW for RTX3090, or power-limit the GPU, or performing a 'dirty' fix of disconnecting a pin of 12V V-sense wire from PSU-side connector of 24-pin motherboard cable (courtesy of Jonny Guru). Units based on post-2018 revisions of Seasonic Focus platform and majority of units by other OEMs are not affected.

[1] MWE V2 units have high ripple issues on very low load also resulting in increased coil whine, fix pending.
[2] High wattage CWT GPX based units have problems with failing burn-in test under sub 90VAC input, treat as 230V only, (Jonny Guru).
[3] Units experiencing tripping issues with high transient power draw GPUs like AMD Vega and high-end nVidia Ampere.
[4] Two versions of Segotep GP-G exist, older v1 version is non-LLC resonant and they're very hard to extinguish externally, hence model tiering based on v1.

nathanyule reacted to BobVonBob in Should I get a B-Stock PSU?
EVGA B-stock products are the same as normal products, but with aesthetic damage and a shorter warranty. If you want the warranty grab a new unit, but the B-stock should be the same as a new unit. Possibly even more likely to be reliable since it was re-tested.

nathanyule reacted to Jurrunio in Motherboard VRM Tier List v2 (currently AMD only)

The following list is based on facts, ranked on power delivery and known problems. The list will include boards that support CPU overclocking available at retail from different brands.

There are still differences in performance among boards of the same tier. As a result, those that barely made it into that tier will be in orange while those that are better than others in the same tier are in blue. Unless specified, boards sharing the same name and chipset in different form factors are ranked the same.

    AMD

All current draw figures are based on Prime95 small FFT with AVX unless otherwise specified, in other words the worst case scenario.

Only often recommended sku of CPUs in the same generation and core/thread count configuration is named, others share the same rating.

Zen scales down frequency and voltage according to EDC (current limit) and TDC (thermal limit) settings of the motherboard so in theory you won’t cook the VRM of any board at stock, you just lose frequency.

For tier A and above, due to lack of feasible CPUs that allow testing of the boards at higher current ratings, there are some level on guessing in terms of how much more power the VRM can take.

    AM4 (Athlon, Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, Ryzen 9)

B550 and X570S Speculation: If you cant find the board above, then it should be here. If it's already up there, then ignore what it's placed here

    TR4 (Ryzen Threadripper 1xxx and 2xxx) X399

sTRX4 (Ryzen Threadripper 3xxx) TRX40 (largely guessing since there's little data)

nathanyule got a reaction from JuganD in Best CPU to Pair with a 1070
I didn't plan on getting a 4000 series chip. I meant that when the 4000 series of CPUs launch, the ryzen 3000  lineup will inevitably drop, allowing me to get a 3600 for sale. Sorry for the confusion .:P
