Best CPU to Pair with a 1070

What would be the best CPU that would pair well with a gtx 1070? Preferably under $250 and future proofing is a concern. I'm gaming on it, but I'm also photo and video editing (not too serious) with it, so I'm leaning more to Ryzen. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Those are all outdated choices from 2 years ago! Why would you recommend it?

If you live near a Micro Center and don't have a mobo yet, buying the two as a combo takes the price of a Ryzen 7 3700X down to $250 on the nose. If you don't live near one or have a mobo, look at a Ryzen 5 3600 instead. Way below $250, so you've got room to play with other parts of your build.

3600 it is then. Should I wait for the 4000 series to drop before jumping on a 3600? I can wait for a couple of months. Also, I do not live near a Microcenter and already have a motherboard (this is just an upgrade).

First of all you should check which CPUs are compatible with your motherboard. I believe the 4000 series will support b450 and X470 with bios update probably. So you should first check what options you have for your specific motherboard.

I didn't plan on getting a 4000 series chip. I meant that when the 4000 series of CPUs launch, the ryzen 3000  lineup will inevitably drop, allowing me to get a 3600 for sale. Sorry for the confusion .:P

Tbh the 3600 is already cheap enough. Just go for it now.

What CPU do you have now, btw?

I would go for the 3600 too if I were you. Or if you're planning on upgrading your graphics card in the next couple of years maybe even the 3700x if you can shell out a bit more for a proper cooler for it (and a mobo?). That would futureproof your machine better, seeing as the new consoles are using 8 core processors too (so new games will most likely also start utilizing 8 cores).

I have a 2200g. Horrible bottleneck ik, but I've been using the integrated graphics on that thing for a year. I just got a 1070, so I'll hold off for a few months before upgrading anything. I only play at 1080p at 60fps so the bottleneck won't be a huge issue (for now). I also don't have any demanding games at the moment, but that would change when the holiday sale comes around for Steam, which would be around the time I got a new CPU.
