  1. Even if that is the right board, those are in one slot spacing. The GPU is blocking that bottom PCIe 1x slot.
  2. The HDD itself will be fine, but it might end up damaging the SATA connector, which would be nearly as bad as killing the drive. SATA isn't made to be plugged in thousands of times like external connectors are (e.g. USB, 3.5mm audio jacks). It will definitely last more than the 50 cycle minimum stated by the spec, but if you're planning to use a HDD as a big USB drive consider either not doing that or getting an external enclosure.
  3. Newer games are starting to use it more and more. In most cases it just makes some calculations faster and there's a backup method if your CPU doesn't support it, but that's not always the case. Some games like Star Citizen and recent Ubisoft games require it, and more games that need it are being made. You'll be able to play just about everything released before 2018, and probably most stuff for the foreseeable future, but AVX is definitely getting more important for gaming.
  4. I'd expect those cheap meters to be accurate to something like ±5% of the actual value. Good enough for relative comparisons, but not good enough to put a lot of faith in the exact numbers.
  5. As in compared to the built-in GPU on the Quest 2? It will be miles better, no question. However, it isn't as fast as developers are expecting when developing new desktop VR games. It'll run Beat Saber or VR Chat just fine, but MS Flight Sim will make you wish you didn't have eyes.
  6. The support list is just a guarantee that it will work with cards that are supported, not that it won't work with cards that aren't. It'll be fine for most VR games, but I'd expect it will have some frame rate issues with intense scenes or graphically intensive games.
  7. Wafers only get transistors etched on one side, so if you touched the side without transistors, it would probably still work. This is equivalent to touching the exposed side of your CPU die. On the side with transistors, definitely not. There's a reason chip manufacturers have some of the world's best clean rooms, because even dust particles can ruin a chip. Touching a wafer with your fingers and expecting it to work right would be like emptying an oil drum on your carpet and expecting it not to be stained.
  8. Basically all the cheap mechanical keyboards use the same switches, either Gateron or Outemu, and they're both fairly decent. If you use the numpad a lot it can be a rough transition to a TKL keyboard, but it's not nearly as bad as smaller form factors. Just make sure to keep in mind that those are clicky keys, and that they make a hell of a lot of noise. Back in university I had to switch to a different keyboard to keep my roommates from murdering me in my sleep.
  9. Here's a PCIe card that supports SATA SSDs. You won't need a SATA power cable, but you will need to connect the data cable to the card.
  10. They're fine. The Intel 660p is half the speed of your other NVMe drives because most Z170 boards only had 2 PCIe lanes allocated for M.2. They repurposed the 2 lanes provided for SATA Express, which turned out to be a dead standard.
  11. I doubt you'll be able to find any laser printer for that cheap, let alone a good one. Inkjets are loss leaders and their prices are held down by the insane cost of ink, laser printers don't have that. Try heading to a local electronics store and looking for laser printers from Brother, they've usually given me the least trouble, but expect to be paying around 150€.
  12. If you notice it, then it's a problem. If you don't notice it, then it's not a problem.
  13. Buy local and used. Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace would be your best bet. You're not going to get anything new worth gaming on for that budget.
  14. They controlled the speed of the front-side bus (FSB). Taping over them to disconnect them would increase the speed of the FSB and thus increase the speed of the CPU. I believe by default the FSB ran at 1066 MHz, and by taping over one of the pins it would increase to 1333 MHz. Taping over the second one would further increase it to 1600 MHz, but only worked reliably on a few CPU/motherboard combos.
  15. It's a registry hack. It's going to have problems. You might be able to change the format of the date to keep it from hanging off the edge. If that doesn't work, either live with it or revert it and wait until actual skinning methods are available.
