Intel is just in a pit of it's own creation, laziness and milking their design over a lot of years.

We need Intel though to help drive competition, though ARM are climbing.

At the end of the day, if you need a CPU, you look at a bunch of them, and get the one with the specs you need. That may be an Intel or an AMD chip. As AMD is great at the moment, it's unlikely that the choice will end up being Intel, at least for HEDT or gaming systems, but there are certainly situations where for some reason an Intel chip will turn out to be the better option. You also have to keep in mind that there's more to microprocessors than gaming and workstation chips.

What was point in AMD when Intel was crushing?

AMD is great at the moment,and if we CPU companies dont have competitions,then there would be good products.We need Intel,and other companies,to continue on getting new generation of cpu's like the ones we are getting from AMD now

Intel is not a small startup. It's a multi-billion dollar corporation that hires over a hundred-thousand people as a semiconductor manufacturer. AMD is a smaller company than Intel (believe it or not), and while AMD still has great value, it comes down to the needs of the end user. In my personal computer, I use an AMD Ryzen processor, and I love it. In the server fleet that I manage, all of the processors are Intel, and for good reason: they've had more validation and have wider support on a lot of really funky enterprise applications. Intel's engineers are still incredibly intelligent people (and I can only hope to attain a portion of their knowledge), and they'll continue to innovate in the best way that they can to be competitive with AMD. They're not just going to shrivel up and die because AMD released a better product than they did - they're going to continue to try and release better products and outdo the competition.

 

Just a few years ago, you could ask the same question about AMD: why did AMD exist in 2015, when AMD FX was the best that they had to offer and it only offered mediocre performance compared to Intel? AMD wanted to claw back market-share, and they're only part of the way there, with Intel still comfortably holding a >60% market share.

agree, at this point was 3 yrs ago, when 1st gen ryzen launched

I won't lie, Ryzen is doing it at the moment.

 

I bought 10980XE (8 months ago) for a decent price and it competes with the 5950X. Similar in price now, I wouldn't see much of a difference between these two so I'm okay for now.

 

However, in the future my next CPU will be Ryzen.

Ah well next year things can look different again anyways... 

My bet is that Alder Lake will kill it. And i dont really need to upgrade since then. Unless AMD or Intel pulls something out of their sleeves that is atleast 20% faster in gaming, then im interessted.

I am a i9 10900k user and I am disappointed with the performance of the AMD CPUs since they only perform slightly better in some games.

I was hoping for something to upgrade to but it will not be this gen. 

 

As for productivity I am using GPU for video editing so my Intel CPUs are not in the way at all.  

 

If I was building a new system right now and availability was not an issue I would go with the 5900x on a Hero board and it would cost the same as an i9 build. 

 

Hopefully this time next year when I upgrade the i7 8086k there will be a better upgrade available for gaming.

That's still new, why you even need an upgrade. The point of 5000 is to beat intel gaming performance, even if it's only slightly.

Make sense if you're coming from 7th or 8th gen, but from 9th or 10th, you wont get enough boost in gaming.

I would just like to have a good excuse to get one.

 

I am interested in their performance in older games that hardly use the GPU at all.  It is a lot of money just to test some old games but it would be fun. 

30 series GPUs come first so it will be next year before I decide to get one or not.

The point of intel is competition to keep prices low and keep amd innovating. Intel also has the chance to be the budget high end gaming alternative thanks to amds price hike.
