I suspect so, it's not "powered", it has residual static

bmx6454 reacted to Levent in thermal paste spread unevenly after delidding
I also found making a tiny shim out of one maybe two layers of electrical tape on the PCB made a noticeable difference (I did have the glue removed). Thermal paste on core die pumps HARD. You can hardly get 3 months of use out of it. It was a constant maintenance operation for me lol
EDIT: DONT DO THAT, I FORGOT THAT I LAPPED THE IHS.

bmx6454 reacted to OhioYJ in thermal paste spread unevenly after delidding
Even with liquid metal, I found there was a fair amount of variation in the results, depending on the application. There is a bit of an art form to it. Your results just won't be nearly as bad with liquid metal, compared to thermal paste, even on a "bad application."
-
bmx6454 reacted to OhioYJ in thermal paste spread unevenly after delidding
You used thermal paste between the IHS and CPU die.
I tried this a few different ways (different pastes, and two different liquid metals) just to experiment as I don't always get the same results I see repeated around everywhere. I found this one to be true, with delidding, you need liquid metal, thermal paste at best might get you close to stock temperatures.
Probably worth mentioning, I know my 7700k that I delidded I read things about people claiming it would need to be "serviced" every year or two after being delidded due to the liquid metal. This one is now over 6 years old, still no problems, hasn't been touched. It dropped my temps almost 20 degrees under load. That being said, I wouldn't do again, and haven't. Just not necessary.

bmx6454 reacted to Levent in thermal paste spread unevenly after delidding
its super hard to do direct die thermal paste and use stock ihs as well. It would take me 10-12 attempts before I get it right. Results would vary 30c between good and bad mounts with my 3570K. Go liquid metal.

Bad contact ?
Anyway you should use liquid metal on delidded CPUs

You will have to reactivate Windows, so if the reason for doing this is to transfer your Windows license from the old laptop to your new computer this will not work

bmx6454 reacted to Eigenvektor in Can bad gpu cause glitches in games?
I doubt anyone can tell you without more information.
Which specific shader(s) cause the issue? What does the issue look like? (Maybe provide a screenshot) Could be an issue with the GPU, but could also simply be a bug with the particular shader. Is it the RX 580 4 GB or 8 GB? If the shaders are more demanding, could potentially be an issue of too little VRAM.

bmx6454 reacted to Zeke_ in 600$ Build with Monitor
I personally wouldn't go for aesthetics when you're on such a tight budget, you can always start with a cheap air cooler and add the AIO later. You do you though, that's just my two cents.

bmx6454 reacted to Levent in What are games that'll make my entire PC cry [require alot of cpu AND gpu power]
What? Tell your parents that your room is too cold then. None of this makes any sense. If you want demanding games, take a look at the AAA games released in the last 4-5 years. Any game with RTRT is demanding enough for current GPUs. As far as CPU goes, as long as you are pushing high frames it will get used enough.
If you want to " performance test" then use 3dmark. Otherwise your data will not be compareable to anyone elses.

bmx6454 got a reaction from SteveBinLaden in Where did this "Linux is only free if you don't value your time" propaganda came from?
everyone should be allowed to voice their opinions freely, you can either try to counter it, or ignore it, but censoring is never the answer. also not sure how you pull "right wing" out of a topic regarding operating systems lol, people push politics into everything.. appreciate the edit.

bmx6454 got a reaction from podkall in Looking for AM5 advice please help
are you hitting like a real barrier in games? or just saw the "bottleneck calculator" that said you are limited? if the latter, they are garbage imo, and not to be taken into consideration. if your pc is doing what you need without issue, i don't honestly see a reason to upgrade it.
-
bmx6454 reacted to BentleyOwen123 in Looking for AM5 advice please help
bottleneck calculators are fake, theres no real way to calulate a bottleneck, and if you want to upgrade to am5 you could, but i would recomend a ryzen 7 5800x3d, just upgraded to that from a 5500 and i can game at 4k quite well, and you can keep your ram and mobo

Make sure the pins and sockets are fully aligned. You might have to move the connectors a bit - the latch needs to be all the way down. I can see in both visible connectors that they're both up.

you can do either, if you want to play it safe, no reason you can't install the os before putting in case.

bmx6454 reacted to RONOTHAN## in What are the disadvantages of not having a Windows key?
No, the only real downside is the watermark. Personalization shouldn't be accessible to you, I don't know why it is, but even if you can't see it you can bypass the settings menu using things like command prompt or even just right-clicking and hitting "set as background." Windows 10/11 in particular are very lenient about the Windows key, so running it without a key is not a big deal.

You know that one case by HP that separates the AIO heat from the GPU heat? I realized that it is currently on sale so if anyone is looking for a case upgrade where your system has a high end AIO.
(I could not find a detailed price history but I do sort of remember the original price being 200-250 ish USD but either way it is a good deal.)

bmx6454 reacted to Paul Rudd in Space Crew Legendary Edition FREE on Steam March 1st
Space Crew Legendary Edition is FREE right now on Steam. 77% Mostly Positive reviews.
Free to keep when you get it before Mar 14 @ 1:00pm.
Published by Curve Digitial, this game was developed by Runner Duck, which also created Bomber Crew and the upcoming title Badlands Crew.
Space Crew is an RTS game and sequel to Bomber Crew. This Legendary Edition basically includes a new campaign and new gameplay features such as missions where the player's crew leave the ship to explore outposts featuring enemies and puzzles. Rock Paper Shotgun praised the game's ability to make players feel like they have skillfully averted a major catastrophe while maintaining balanced gameplay, though they criticized an occasional lack of choice in some areas. Although saying that the game is fun when played in bite-sized chunks, PCGamesN compared it negatively to Into the Breach, FTL Faster Than Light and Slay the Spire, which the reviewer felt were more fun in longer gameplay sessions. Nintendo Life criticized the game's controls for the Switch and its difficulty, but they enjoyed the in-depth gameplay, art style, and character customization.
