Well you could go with intel but it would require you to get a whole new mobo + cpu combo. If you play strategy games like for example stellaris the 5800x3d is amazing. even at late game max galaxies it runs it very well. and my 6950xt has also been getting great utilisations in basically every game now. even games like cyberpunk which would fluctuate heavily while using fsr on my 3800xt that i had. i basically doubled my fps in most games.  and in some special cases even close to trippled it. as well as the 1% lows which shot through the roof so to say. so if you want to stick to am4 for now you could get it but it wont guarantee that the usb issue goes away. cause so far it has really only been my keyboard that has had these issues thinking back probably since i got the 3800xt. and so far it only happened once on my 5800x3d. I am of course running the latest drivers.
but as i already stated i am really not bothered by it. it happens once every few weeks to 2 months. and its a simple in and out of the cable and it doesnt happen again for a long time. Just always assumed it was my pc going through some things 🙂

But i should say i see your using a 3070. if you will switch to the 5800x3d it probably wont see much improvements besides the special games where it does. and maybe 1% lows. But for this cpu you really need a good gpu paired with it to fully utilize it properly. like my 6950xt or a 6900xt or 4070ti / 3090/ti you get the idea xD

I own a B550 AM4 with a 5800x but some days I just cant stand the USB dropouts which is why I am looking at solutions.

If you have time browse some reddit posts it is verrrry prominent but as you probably know AMD fanboys are getting out of hand these days so it gets buried any AMD issue are just "yoUr fAulT" or "diD u UpdAtE biOs"  this is literally grounds for a recall.. AMD released a patch in bios updates that did appear to fix it for some people but I have seen literally hundreds still report it.

Very common to get random dropouts from controllers, KB/Mice but the biggest issues are
    1) Audio popping when using a DAC/AMP the micro disconnects cause this
2)USB drives/external drives will either fail to even detect but manage to hard crash windows explorer or if you are lucky and it does detect large files will fail mid transfer.
3)Some ports worse than others, typically 3.0 and type C have more dropouts. 2.0 issues still exist but often less common.

People who only use usb ports for controllers KB/Mouse will only likely experience very random micro USB dropouts anyone who actually uses their USB ports for moderately intensive things are SOL.

that is true, but to me it just wouldnt make sense to get a 3060 on such old hardware. even if he added in a new 16gb 3200 kit that would run at 2400 i believe or an nvme drive. yeah the 7700 wouldnt hold it back that much compared to lets say your 5600 maybe an average of 20 fps lower. but he would have to update his pc anyway sooner or later with upcoming games being more and more cpu intensive making a 4c8t not really ideal. meaning in my opinion it would be better for him to first make his pc up to date and modern/smooth with a updated motherboard that can run at such ram speeds an 650w psu and a better cpu like your 5600x for example. and ssd/nvme before going to a different gpu.

unless he does not play new aaa titles or demanding indie/aa titles. but then he wouldnt need a 3060 either.

those temps look fine but i dont exactly have data to match it with something else.
water coolers usually take some time to settle at their performance. meaning it first will get hot and then it will stabilize but you will only know this if you do long runs on cinebench to test it. water cooling like an aio is usually only really needed on the hotter cpus. and not really on the easier to cool ones. as per example your cpu could also be cooled on an air cooler thats half decent. like for example an Noctua NH-U12S
its ultimately what you prefer to spend your money on. i would suggest thinking about what you want your pc to look and perform like. and then go from there.

I owned both. 1080 Ti is higher performing for raster games. 2070 gets you RTX and a slightly newer NVENC encoder.

Technically it functions but unusable slow in any game.

DLSS gen supported is determined by the software, not the hardware. It could be useful at 1440p upwards on the 2070.

I think the difference between cyberpunk and starfield is that starfield was delayed massively and you can see the massive improvements over the last showcase. And they showed a lot. Cyberpunk didn't. And was very secretive. Starfield is not so much.

Might as well, but AM4 by default resets all CPU related settings when it detects new CPU as far as i know. And yeah, good call. Even on 5600 the 6800 and 6900 start to bottleneck on CPU heavy titles.

So, embarrassing moment. I might've forgot to take the plastic cover off the heat sink. In Cinebench I get a 14200 score now, without PBO tuner. I reseated the heat sink the other way as well, no clue if its making a difference but it's working great now. I get to around 88c in Cinebench. The hot weather ain't helping either. I slapped 5 Artic P14s in as well (3 intakes, 2 exhausts) with one Arctic F14 as another exhaust (didn't have another fan), as I was still using my stock case fans which are about 6-7 years old. Idling around 35-40c which is much better now.
Thanks for the help everyone, I have 0 clue how to get it to run cooler than 88c but thats in Cinebench under load 4.2 on all cores. Doubt I'll ever need that in a game.

    Edit: With PBO2 applied (-30 all cores, 88, 60, 90) - I only reach 70c during Cinebench. Huge difference.

It probably will either be closer to between a 3070/3070ti. So perf wise the 3070ti is better. But neither are a good option and your better off to go with a 6750xt for around 3070 perf. And 6800/6800xt for above 3070ti perf. Unless you absolutely need av1 or the cuda cores. But if you game amd is just better for your money. Neither of the gpu I mentioned including the 4060ti will require you to have 1000w psu. You will be fine with 650. And possible 500 for the 4060ti but always go with more than you actually need and not barely with what you need.

hollyh88 reacted to YoungBlade in CPU stuck on stock cooler help
From what I've heard, this can happen with AMD's stock thermal paste even after heating it up first. The paste ends up becoming a strong adhesive after thermal cycling for a while. The recommendation is actually to remove the cooler in a gentle twisting motion - not to pull it straight up. The PGA retention just isn't strong enough to keep the CPU in place.

It's been a longstanding issue - you can see that a couple of those pictured there are AM3 CPUs - but thankfully now that AMD is moving to LGA, it shouldn't be a problem anymore. The retention mechanism should hold the CPU in place in spite of how strong the thermal paste's adhesion is.

hollyh88 got a reaction from DeerDK in 6750xt bottlenecking 5800x3d?
    I don't understand your issue.

Gpu usage should be as close as possible to 100%. 97%-100% is still fine. It shows your cpu is letting your gpu perform as good as it can. I'm also thinking of getting a 5800x3d to pair it with my 6950xt (currently paired with a 3800xt) it will mostly also be fully utilised unless a game is completely broken with using the cpu. What isn't a good % is what I have now in some games with my pairing aka around 80% from time to time. Which indicates a cpu bottleneck. Its not fast enough to provide my gpu with what it needs.

20-40% usage in cpu is fine too. That means that roughly 4 to 6 cores of its physical cores are being utilised properly. That's perfectly fine. Not all games will use 8 cores(50%) and your cpu reaching 77 degrees isn't exactly bad. It can be a hot cpu due to the 3d stack.

Trying to add a screw to screw the GPU onto the case. While it was turned on. (even back in those days, PC's were always supposed to be powered on) It dropped on my mobo, sparks, smoke and an power outage. It had burned several traces on the back of the mobo, but it would power back on. Turned out the traces went to the onboard audio, which got totally fried. Turned onboard audio off in the BIOS, added an PCI soundcard, and used this board for about 10 years.

Damage was horrible, and it wasn't a budget board back in those days. (mobo was at least 3x the cost of the CPU I ended up using) But considering how it happened: silly moment.

This is something I appreciate about Gamers Nexus. They are not afraid to give companies criticism, and stick to their guns, and do real investigations on issues, rather than glossing over it, or entirely ignoring it. It's the engineering aspect that I appreciate. Their videos are long for sure, but they're also in-depth.

I work in the government space, so let me tell you...there are many things that are NOT perfect. Every day, I see it. People here complaining that they only go after negativity are simply wrong. GN does make negative videos, but that's because many products now are just cash grabs, and they're pointing that out, but they also make positive videos too, or contribute to communities.

Something that I've been saying at work is that positivity can be toxic, specifically if that attempt at being positive means shutting out the negativity and pretending it doesn't exist. That's just ignoring the problems of your own local areas, as well as the issues of the world. The world is full of negativity, and shutting it out won't make it go away. It'll just make it worse.

it was not deceptive. He showed the mechanism of HOW it was already starting fires. and by helped... he twisted a screw.
Literally... just twisted a screw. aka something a normal user would fucking do, or would have the screw in the right spot to do that after their build and at some point, it sparks just right and catches fire when not at home. There was nothing misleading here. Screw will twist when in shipping as well as vibrations make it back in or back out. OH WOW went to a LAN party, now my house is on fire.

Im sorry, lying about your product in your advertising is a solid reason to not recommend it. Dude is biased against false advertising, such an awful thing to be biased against. holy hell. The data is still in the video for those who still want it. Just imagine seeing a company just LIE about a product and saying, oh you fine, ill actively recommend it anyways.
